Hi,

Been reading the forums since January to get my Windows 7 help and so far its been all good. Now that I have changed from the beta to RC, I have been getting loads of problems dealing network and internet wise.

First, I have a wireless card in my box. When I try to get on the internet Windows 7 for some reason drops me every 15 to 30 minutes. I turned off the power saving 'feature' and turned off windows firewall. After all that I still get dropped. But from what I see the problem is not solved so I will not ask.

Second, I haven't noticed anyone having this problem but I am. Whenever I go into advanced sharing settings, I click the turn off network discovery button and the turn off file and printer sharing on home and public networks. But when I go back they are all turned on. I would like all of them off but windows won't let me. How do I turn them off and leave them off?

(I also have file and printer sharing for microsoft networks turned off in the wireless properties and it stays off)

Thank you in advance

Hi DAsqueek21, welcome to the forums.

I've just checked the sharing setting and no matter what I do the settings change as they should. There may be a Network/Internet setting in the Group Policy Editor that might me switched on/off.

Type edit group into the start menu search bar and click Edit group policy.

Now navigate to Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\All Settings and see if anything in the 'State' collumn is set to anything other than 'Not Configured' and change them to 'Not Configured'

Also you will need to look in User Configuration too

Hope this helps :)

Nope, they are all not configured.

Edit: I can see my Windows 7 box on other computers too, which I would like to not happen.

do you mean you just turned off sharing for your libraries/shares and public shares... instead of "network". Because when/if you are on a public network, by default there shouldnt be any file or printer sharing what so ever. What kind of network are you on exactly?

when you switched to RC... what kind of "migration" did you use, easy transfer wiz? Or did you start from total "scratch" ?

I am on a home network but I want to turn it off for both public and home networks.

At first I tried to do that update from beta to RC which I tried and hung transferring files I had in the beta to the RC OS so I did a clean install after that. Then I found out microsoft will not allow RC to RTM when it is released. So I deleted my Windows 7 partition and put XP back on it and put Windows 7 RC on my other hard drive and it still does the same thing.

Honestly I have had more problems with the RC than the beta
