file sorting

I can't seem to get my file folders to sort into catagories .
I want links together, graphics together, word together...etc

In XP, you can have your folders sorted into catagories or alphabeticly in groups. In 7..the folders are just listed alphabeticly. I want my folders to sort into all links together, all word docs together, and all pics together.
I can't find anything.

Isn't that what View / Group by / Type gives you?
