OK ... yesterday I found that I had a copy of 'My Documents' folder inside 'My Pictures' the contents of the folder were identical to the normal 'my Documents'. (initially deleted all - now recovered)
However there is a structure fault.

I still have My documents and a dup of my documents within My Pictures .......

If I look in the normal explorer view I see at top level under my user name .. normal folder ..
My Documents, My Pictures, My Video etc.
If I click on the 'My documents' folder, in the top path bar it shows what I expect.
E:\My Documents (left hand pic below)
However if I click on the start of that path bar this changes to E:\My Pictures\My Documents see pic of right below.

How can I fix this and get back to 'My Documents' being only where it should be.

What may be relevant is that OS is on C:/
Moved my folders to E:/

This can happen when you accidentally drag the folder and drop it in an unintended location. You may also have moved it incorrectly. To know which is the actual Shell User Documents folder right click on it to choose Properties to see which has a Location tab and where it is pointed.

Once you find the shell User Documents folder with the Location tab, you can correct its location there if necessary. Once it is confirmed in desired location, you may delete any duplicate Documents folders after making sure you have gotten any files out of them you need.

If not then follow this tutorial User Folders - Restore Default Location - Windows 7 Forums. You must follow every step as this will always result in restoring the shell User folder to its default location from where you can then move it again. Note that you will need to delete all folders named Documents before restoring to default. Back up the files first.

I made in E:/ rather than in libraries and it seems to have sorted itsefl out - no duplicates any more

I'll give the 'return to default' steps a miss for now ... as I don't want to move folders back ......... there is insufficient room on C:\

The Restore to Default is only if you needed to recreate the shell Documents folder because none have a Location tab.

It might be worth noting that the OP recovered a mistakenly deleted document folder from Drive E

See this thread:

http://www.sevenforums.com/general-...r-deleted-folder-post3077293.html#post3077293

Now I suppose that the problem with the folder will depend upon the method used to move it in the first place.

GregRocker can help you with this.

The folder was moved using this method to change folder location. As previously I used the move profile method, and when I had an issue, (many months later) found Windows repair tools won't work - they don't support moved profiles.

As it is the saved items in My Docs, My videos, My p[pictures that take up the room ... followed this instead:

i.e. Don't move your Windows user profiles folder to another drive | ZDNet

I had deleted the complete 'my documents' folder (now restored using RECUVA)
All seems back working OK now ... after moving files at E:\ not in library.
