Hi,

I wouldn't be sure if this is a windows problem more than a maths one, but I have a file that if I open it with note pad the text is unreadable or in hex form. I thought if I posted the image of it in the forum someone might identify the script and if possible explain how to convert it into simple text. Their help would be most appreciated.

Its unreadable because it is not a text file. If you right click on it then select properties that will bring up a window that will tell you the Type of File you are dealing with. For instance a text file is .txt, a word doc is .doc.

If for some reason that does not work, as sometimes a file name will end in a period without the three digit file type following the period, this website will tell you what the file really is

edit: I should have paid more attention as your file name is right on the picture top. Its an MWF file, which is for autodesk mapguide viewer

Thanks for your help, but I'm not getting far. It looks a complicated file to do with graphics settings. I only needed to make a small adjustment but not to fussy. There are a list of programs some are not easy to understand their installation or what other programs they're associated with some are expensive. So not to care too much.

Well I said it was no big deal that I couldn't get to the file, but I do actually rather badly wish that I could. But seeing I don't have near the technical ability for this type of task, I would offer anyone that could a sum of money if they were willing to help.

EDIT: I just learned this file , .WMF is used for data and can not be opened.

Based on the picture you posted, its an MWF file not a WMF file

That file can only be opened with the program called autodesk map viewer.

If you click the link below
http://download.osgeo.org/mapguide/...s/MapGuideOpenSource-3.1.1.9378-Final-x64.exe
save it to your desktop, then click on it after it is on your desktop, the program will install itself on your computer. As it is installing it will ask you a bunch of questions, so just keep clicking yes or next until the install is finished. After that you can click on your MWF file and it will open within autodesk map viewer.

I've got the program but could'nt possibly find my way around it. It looks more for the developed persons not where my path is leading. I have to get on with my little rock collecting expedition. Thanks the same.

If you can get the Map Viewer to open the file and display, what I assume is a map, you could then use the snipping tool, or a 3rd party alternative, to Snip a bitmapped [jpg/png/etc] image which you can then edit etc for your use

No, it is actually a data file, with info how to define the map and other bits. I read it can't be opened but if I could get the program to start that is I'd be able to try for myself. I downloaded the above program MapGuide but it has no .exe file to open it so I can't open the file as it stands. Any help on that?

I have done some quick checks and the application seems to be very old, It is supposed to be used as a plug in for a browser but the latest windows I have seen mentioned for support is Windows 2000 and installing as a netscape browser add in using Flash, which would place it around late 90's to early 2000's

Unless you can find a modern version of the software or an alternative I doubt you can run it on a modern system

Look, I appreciate your help but all this makes no practical sense to me. I thought I had the right program for my windows 64bit OS. I just don't know what it is for starters and then it has no .exe file to open the app. from the root directory. There is a folder in root folder called "bin" with a whole lot of .exe files and I have actually run the lot of them with the file I'm trying to open but none of them opened it. So, that's where I am at the time and about to call it a stop.

Just to finish, and I guess one should have gone to the sim makers with the argument, with a motec or dashboard on a vehicle in a sim one would normally pick it if it needed fixing like this one does (how it is that brightly lit) and can't get to do it as easy as reshading a map. But maybe not so.

You missed the point. That program will not run properly on Win 7.
