Files downloaded in IE10 save in one place but buffer in another

Greetings, recently when I download files in IE10 using the "save as" option to save to a specific location, the ".partial" file will show up at that location but it will have 0 KB size, no matter how far along the download as determined in the "View downloads" window.

I believe the downloading file is being buffered in

C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Low\Content.IE5

because I can find the file being downloaded within a specific folder given a random, 8-digit, alpha-numeric name, and that file is the correct size for how far along the download is.

I would like to reset things so that the downloaded file is buffered in the actual location where the file is being saved and not in Temporary Internet Files since I have Windows on a small partition and cannot afford unnecessary usage of space if it can be avoided.

Thanks for reading this and for any help you might have.

Hi and welcome to Sevenforums,
I wouldn't directly save items to another partition as your doing,
Just use the default downloads folder to begin with,
After the file is scanned.... by windows.. then you can move it where you want to,
The downloads folder can be cleaned using built in windows tools such as Disk cleanup and or clearing your browser history with the downloads folder checked,

Large files are usually the ones you have issues with I'm guessing ;)

Hi TZ and thanks for your reply and welcome.

You're right it's the large files I'm having issues with, especially when they take almost a day to download with my connection speeds.

I'm curious why you would advise against directly saving to another partition other than Windows since that's what I've always done and usually haven't had any problems.

I've always downloaded directly to my external RAID because it avoids the extra step of having to copy files over from a default downloads folder and I don't have to remember what download goes into which RAID folder.

Anyway, until a few days ago my downloads always buffered in the locations where they're saved and I just want to reset things to go back to that.

Hi,
It's just safer and more reliable to use the default downloads folder,
Downloading to another drive/ partition infects those areas eventually,
Which might be what your seeing the habit has caught up to you and those areas you download to,
Review Jacee’s instructions to run Adwcleaner here post #7,
Ignore the title of the thread,

Screen shot of the download button to use for Adwcleaner
You can use these free tools to see if they find anything,
Manually Update them before running full scans,
Try not to use your computer while the scans are running, (one at a time of course).
Uncheck the box to Activate the Free trial from the final install options,
Also use the Custom scan option not the Threat scan,
Select the drive to scan usually C,
If your really infected check the box to scan for Rootkits = this scan option will take several hours to complete,
Never use your machine while scans are running for best results,

This one is the longest up to 4 hours, the others are only about 45 minutes,

Post all scan results for review,
Cheers.
