Files in wrong location?

It's the old lady again, and I still don't understand the Windows 7 file structure. I'm used to a single user system, so when I moved my document files from my old computer to my new one, I just copied them to my data partition, D:\, using Windows Explorer. When I create a new file or download pictures, I still do it the old way by saving it to the proper location on my hard drive. I know they should show up in C:\Users\myname\Documents\*.*, but they don't.

How do I correct this?

I just avert my eyes when "Libraries" pops up!

Ah libraries. Think of them as where the index for all your music, pics, etc is located. They can be anywhere on your system (for storage in a safe place) but the index defaults to lib's.

You can move libraries, or not even use them.

If you create a file and save it where does it end up? (search for the file name)

The libraries don't bother me. I just ignore them.

It is the fact that the files are not listed in C:\Users\myname\Documents\*.*

Did you save the files to C:\Users\username\Documents or to a location on D:\ ?

How are you doing this? What is the "proper location" you are referring to? If it's not your Documents folder then they will not appear there.

Can you provide an example of where you are saving to?

Your stuff is apparently on D and not on C. Just right click on the top folders in D (documents, music, etc.) and include them into the corresponding library. Then they will be easy to find - the beauty of libraries.

Why would you expect to see that in your Documents folder? Include D:\1 DOCUMENTS in your library as whs suggests and it becomes accessible along with you other documents.

As I said. As they are on D, you will not find them on C. Do as we suggested and you will easily find them.
