files strangely reverting to earlier versions of the same file

Hi,

Not really sure if this is a network problem, but I couldn't get help in other rooms. I'm on a Win7Ultimate computer at work, primarily accessing storage over a network...

A few days ago I started having an issue where I would make changes to a file (always powerpoint files so far), save the file, and then the next day the changes would be gone. The 'date modified' metadata would also suggest that no changes had been made since an earlier date/time. Just lately I've been having issues with an excel plugin (Capital IQ) which isn't able to download information correctly (only on my computer, no one else's.

There are no crashes, reboots, error messages or anything ... it just looked like I hadn't been in the file or made any changes since an earlier date/time. I had the 'previous versions / windows backup' feature turned off, but I have since turned it on - the problem has occurred in both cases. I have also tried emailing the files to myself (through outlook) and saving them to my desktop ... in both cases the powerpoint files still randomly revert to earlier versions ... I believe in the case of email that the storage server isn't actually duplicating the file, but is simply pointing to the same file from both the email and the file location in windows explorer.

This is incredibly frustrating and is killing me at work - I'm going to try and get a clean install of my system, but any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

It sounds like you are attempting to use Libraries when you update those files. Is this true?

If so I have some ways you can easily fix this problem.
