Finally back at my job, After 28 months on disability

I don't recall if I had previously posted that I received a liver transplant last October. It saved my life, I would be dead now if someone had not donated a liver to me. Anyway, I'm recovered almost completely and yesterday I started back at my old job as a Network Engineer/Analyst at a company with 12,000 employees. I had previously worked at this company for over 17 years before going on disability status. They kept my job and welcomed me back! I am so blessed.

So now that I am working everyday (so excited about that), I probably won't be following this forum as much as I have in the past. I will still be lurking during evening hours (USA central time) every now and then. While I was on disability, I have enjoyed contributing here and being part of this scene. It was much more fun than watching soap operas and Oprah all day.

I met with the mother today of the 20 year old young man who died and from who I received the donor liver. It was very emotional, we both hugged and we both cried. I have been her co-worker for so long and have met her boys over the years as they grew up. I mean, what do you say to her? I did the best I could. I hope none of you ever have to be in that situation or go through years of knowing your dying. Take care of your liver.

PS. He died in an automobile accident after getting drunk and wasted at a party, then trying to drive home. He hit a tree and smashed his brains out. DOA at the hospital. He was put on life support and his organs were donated. Someone got a new heart, two people got new kidneys, some one got his eyes and can see again. I got his liver and now I can watch my grandchildren grow up. If you want your life to have special meaning, make sure your family knows you want to donate if you die.

I myself don't drink or smoke, do any drugs, and physically active. In fact I'm very boring. I am however going through the recruitment process for the RCMP, so I am for sure an organ doner in case something goes wrong on the job!

Great stuff and good Luck -- nice to see even in these days of "Corporate Greed" some companies are doing the right thing

- especially when you hear about people who bought their own institutions to Bankruptcy and walking away with OBSCENE amounts of money while 1000's of people are daily losing their jobs.

I'm a freelancer currently "just about hanging on" until contract expires at end of JUNE. I'm under a little bit of pressure as IS is technically not an EU member state but it does have agreements with EU countries relating to Visas, (none needed) or Work permits (also none needed for UK, scandanaivian countries, Holland, Germany, Switzerland and France)

Hopefully the upturn will have started by then or at least we'll be over the worst.

Good to hear some Pleasant news for a change.
