Finding a specific Windows 7 Update

Every once in a while I will read that a update may cause problems to your computer and to remove it.

Recently update KB3133977 was reported that it was crashing certain mother boards.

Now for my problem/question.

I'm using windows 7. I go to my windows update, installed updates and wondering if I can search for a specific update. Surely there should be a way to search instead of having to scroll through all 335 updates.

I noticed the search box in the upper right corner and thought that would be the answer. So I tested it out by searching for an update I knew was listed but it did not find the update even though it was an installed update, so that wasn't the answer.

Tell me, if you are looking for a specific update, how do you guys find it? Is there a way to search or an easier way than having to scroll through your entire list of updates?

Open up Windows 7 Updates.
Lower left corner tick on Installed Updates.
Upper Right corner (Search Installed Updates)
Type in or copy and pasted the KB number. (KB3133977)

It should either show the KB or state (No items match your search)

That method has always worked for me.

I have always used the search box in the upper right. I have not had any issues with searching for specific updates.

Or just go down the list and look for one ending in 977, should just take a minute.

And remember, you`re just looking at the Microsoft Windows updates, not any others, and if you have any idea of the date it may have been installed that helps too.

That update didn`t even show up in the Microsoft Information Data Base for me, but google hits say it may give trouble to asus boards.

I don`t have it hidden, it`s not installed or available so I wouldn`t worry about it.

Also, as you type in an installed update it dramatically shortens your installed updates list, so yes it does work.

Did you visually go down your update list and indeed find it installed ?

Expired Updates

An expired update is an update that has been invalidated by Microsoft. An expired update can also be an update that has been superseded by the release of another update (new or revised) that fixes or enhances functionality or applicability offered by the expiring update. In this case, the superseding update should be approved in place of the expired update. An update that is expired can no longer be approved for detection or installation.

Whether it has any baring here is anyone`s guess.

What I do is:

Search using KB number:

Or open an Elevated Command Prompt.

Then type powershell and hit enter. Wait for the powershell prompt to appear (PS)
Use the command get-hotfix -id KB3133977 to find out whether the update is installed
Query multiple updates in a single command like this:
get-hotfix -id KB3133977,KB3021917,KB2990214,KB2952664

Good find Jack, good thiing we don`t use or even need bitlocker, it didn`t even come up for me, maybe Asus has a block on it

I googled the update which usually brings up a hit for the MS info page but no dice, did it manually and it showed up.
