Firefox 22.0 keeps freezing (not responding)

I used to use Firefox a lot until about a year or so ago when it kept freezing while you were searching. It just freezes and shows (Not Responding) on the top. It takes about 5 maybe 10 seconds each time it happens. But it does happen a lot. I also seem to notice it does it more as you go longer into the browsing session (not sure if this is relevant).

I use windows 7, and have been using Chrome more because it seems faster and doesn't hang much. Is there a way to fix firefox from hanging?

Thanks followed your suggestion BrightBlessings. I did it about 10 minutes ago and so far it does feel a bit 'lighter' and no hang so far. Fingers crossed. Hopefully that fixes things.
