Mozilla has released Firefox version 27.

As detailed in the release notes, the major new feature is support for the Firefox SocialAPI. Mozilla describes the SocialAPI as "a new API to make it easier for web browsers to integrate with social media services. Once a social service provider is implemented for Firefox, it becomes possible for the browser to display in-chrome user controls and information related to that service."

Three SocialAPI plugins are available today: Facebook Messenger for Firefox, Cliqz, and Mixi (Japan only). In the screen grab below of Facebook messenger for Firefox, you can see how the Facebook Messenger pane stays up and running while the main browser window is on another site.

The "more social" part is driving some users away.

Pale Moon has opted to leave that social stuff off.

Agreed.
I can't stand Chrome or IE, so I've swapped to Palemoon 64 as a (feeble) protest against worthless fluff features. :(

Also, Mozilla refuses to fix the:

  • Bookmark Manager (in fact it has gotten worse)
  • Session Manager (to be fair, that could be an AV related problem though)
They seem to have plenty of time for useless fluff though.

Ditched Waterfox

What about Waterfox 64?

Hi, I ditched Waterfox some time ago although the portable version wasn't bad especially if you just wanted to try out the browser. I stopped using it because it wasn't updated quickly by the developer.

If you take a quick look at the Cyberfox download page you'll see that it's already been updated. Just checked Watefox and it's still the old version.

Waterfox - The fastest 64-bit variant of Firefox on the web still lagging behind - latest version available is 26.0

Some sites look better via IE (on the right);

My comparison looks different:

  • Palemoon (custom settings - Calibri font)
  • IE 10 (default settings)

Mozilla Firefox is dying I'm sure. I've been using it for years and slowly but surely, with every update it has got slower and s.l.o.w.e.r. Daily, I was getting "not responding" and finally bit the slug and deleted it. Back to IE (I know, I know), but at the minute it's doing the job one whole lot quicker than MF. Unless they improve it markedly....which on form I doubt, it's RIP Firefox.

Sometimes those issues are caused by corrupt files in your FF profile.

Must confess, I miss ol' FF, too many little gripes with IE.

they can take the social features out of the browser. i know how to use the address bar and my bookmarks if i want to go to a social site. we don't need useless bloat in the browser.

That is what Pale Moon did. It is Firefox without the junk and there is a 64bit version.

Yes. Pale Moon is great. If you want firefox but don't want the bloated features that mozilla is implementing in almost every version you should give it a try.

I only wonder when do the FF team will:
- Start to build a native x64 version, x32 is likely to be slower, talking about media sites for example... Even IE has a x64 version...
- Fix all the dammed memory leak problems Firefox has, damn, even Mega complains about that, this is just silly...
- Start telling deplovers to create plugins for x32 and x64 builds so you don't have to worry about compatibility...
- Working on the issues this browser still has regarding Direct Draw and text rendering on certain systems...

The social media crap DOESN'T add anything to the browser, thsi points ACTUALLY do...

Are they deaf/blind or something?
