In addition to fixing 43 bugs (nine critical), Firefox 3.5.3 warns users if they are using outdated versions of Adobe's Flash Player. Mozilla simply tossed a notice up on Firefox's update page to inform people who might be using old versions of Flash unknowingly. That decision reportedly lead about 10 million users to download up-to-date software from Adobe's website.

All of my systems still run fastest on XP 32-bit for the most part. Win7 is fun to play with, but I still prefer XP for raw speed, security, and functionality.

If so that is 10 million less people that were susceptible to flaws of the older versions of flash...if this prevents a future issue than I think Adobe will be glad

I think you're giving Adobe too much credit. I bet this idea came entirely from the Mozilla folks.

Adobe is still handing out vulnerable versions of Acrobat reader on their main servers.

Not giving anyone credit, simply saying that I'm sure Mozilla got some sort of permission from Adobe to do this.

I don't think Adobe would be unaware of it and be unhappy because suddenly they had a big increase of users installing newer versions of flash.

Yeah see I'm assuming Adobe didn't know anything about it.

I guess this 10 million downloads of flash player isn't all at the same time either. But that is what actually happens in Firefox's case (i.e. when people upgrade to a new release of Firefox).
