Firefox 4.0 Beta 4 Download a Taste

I was wondering do add on's not work for the beta? I have 2 add on's from my regular firefox it says incompatible does that mean it wont ever work or it just wont work right now?

Thanks

Wont work right now (none of mine do either). They may not work in the future but we wont know untill they are digitally signed for that version

Not running any extensions that are not default. This installation of Windows has only ran Opera and Google Chrome since it was installed, this is the first install of Firefox that is has gotten. It loads horrendously slow compared to Google Chrome and Opera. :(

Define horrendously slow.
I timed it with my watch:
FF 4.b4 1-2 seconds.
FF 3.6.8 3-4 seconds.

I guess that is 1 or 2 seconds you will never get back.

7-10 seconds, I just did a clean install though so I'll give it another shot and reply back (or edit this post).

Try Nightly Tester Tools to force install addons or force them to work. Usually does the trick.

I've had the same problem over time wanting to be on the leading (bleeding?) edge of software and operating systems.

Regarding FF, there are two ways to get around this. The first (note possible security risks):

  • Type about:config into Firefox's address bar and click the "I'll be careful, I promise!" button.
  • Right-click anywhere. Choose New>Boolean. Make the name of your new config value extensions.checkCompatibility and set it to false.
  • Make another new boolean pair called extensions.checkUpdateSecurity and set the value to false.
  • Restart Firefox.
The second way is safer and how I do it. Unzip

Download your extension.xpi
Unzip the *.xpi file (7-zip should do it)
Edit your "install.rdf"
Update maxVersion to 4.0b4 (or whatever the newest version is).
zip it back up and make sure the extension is *.xpi

Installed FF 4 b4 and enabled hardware acceleration there was no performance gain using the Peacekeeper benchmark but it was very impressive on the IE9 test drive demos running the fish tank with 1000 fish it was instantly up to speed at 35 fps.
