Firefox 5 Doesn't Display Web Pages Properly w/ Windows 7

Okay, I only have enough brain left to type this thread. I just upgraded (new PC) with Windows 7 Pro 32 bit. Ever since doing so, none of the websites seem to download properly or look like they did in Vista regardless of the theme, website, or other. I can make the website or font bigger with Cntrl>Alt>Scroll but it never seems to last nor does it cover the page.

This does not occur in Opera, but I am not a 100% true fan of Opera and I absolutely detest IE. Well, what now? Give me back my Vista. Never had a problem with Vista.

Well, I didn't upgrade. The PC was new. Just downloaded Firefox 5.0 and you saw the results. I'm not sure what you are referring to with 'NoScript.'

Okay, I found out what NoScript is. I downloaded it as an Addon and it did nothing. I am going to remove it. I forgot to mention that IE doesn't load worth a tickers damn either. Same results, which tells me it has to be a setting someplace I've missed.

White Pages

Gentlemen: I might also mention that all of the background of each web page is white no other color. I'm stumped.

Run the system file checker.

WIN | CMD.EXE | do NOT hit Enter | right-click on cmd.exe in the resulting display and choose Run as administrator |

You are now at what is called an "elevated command prompt".

Type
SFC /SCANNOW
hit ENTER

If when the System File Checker finishes, you do NOT see a message indicating that no integrity violations were found, THEN reboot your computer and once again run System File Checker. Do you get the msg about no integrity violations now?

Oh yes,
WIN is the key with the Microsoft flag on top.

One possibility I can think of with you saying Opera is OK and it happens in Firefox (is IE9 affected as well?), Firefox uses both Direct2D and DirectWrite hardware acceleration (uses the video card to render pages) and Opera doesn't yet. Did you remember to install the latest driver for your video card?

Gentlemen: Ran the scan and did get the message. I also installed the new driver for the video card. No go. Still the same.

Storm: Nice having a Canadian onboard. My maternal grandparents were from Sarnia, Ontario. Consider Canada my second home. Spent many a good time as a kid and adult in Canada.

Use Speccy - System Information - Free Download
and/or SIW to gather info for filling in the blanks.

Do me a favor and add the word laptop or desktop to the “system manufacturer” block.

Use the “Other Info” block for Optical Reader, Mouse, touchpad, wifi adapter, speakers, monitor

Scroll down and click on the SAVE CHANGES button.

Excellent. Now let's make sure that ALL updates have been installed.

Believe it or not. Win 7 can indicate that you are up-to-date and then turn around and tell you that you have updates to be installed.

Go to Windows Update: WIN | type Windows Update | ENTER

PREP WORK
We want to make sure that receive all possible updates.
In the left-hand side, click on Change settings |
checkmark all four of the boxes | OK button

Approve any dialog boxes presented. Let Windows install any update features.

UPDATE PROCEDURE

1. In the left-hand column, click on Check for Updates
2. Install all critical updates.
3. Restart you computer.

Keep repeating those three steps until all critical updates are installed.
Do NOT trust that display on the right-hand side which may say that you are up-to-date. You keep repeating those three steps until after performing the three steps there are no more updates to be installed.

Now that was for the critical updates.
Repeat that same procedure for ALL Important updates.

After all Important updates are installed, then
Repeat that same procedure for ALL Optional updates.

An important word about updates.
You look at the list of updates and if you see an update related to .NET then, INSTALL THAT UPDATE BY ITSELF BUT STILL IN SEQUENCE.
Why you ask? Because there are a couple of those .NET updates that will take forever. You will think that your computer is hung!

How to tell that update is still running?
CTRL + SHIFT + ESC key combo will pop-up the Task Manager where you will see that Windows Update is still running.

Now the other word of caution. Under Optional updates you will be presented with a list of about 35 language updates.

You can hide those updates so that aren't continually notified of those updates. When you click on 35 optional updates are available, then you a) highlight all of the language updates,
b) right-click anywhere in the highlighted list.
c) click on Hide Updates,
d) OK button.

Now you will be able to select the optional updates again, but this time all of the language updates are hidden.

In any case, work you way down from critical, to important, to optional and keep going back to the update well until you come up with an empty bucket.

Finished. I kept coming up with a request to update my Canon Printer each time I checked for updates. Nothing else showed up. I have 55 updates installed and 3 .NET framework updates installed as well. Never ran into the NET you mentioned and no other updates were found. I could not locate or did I come across the 35 languages dialog you mentioned.

One other problem: Three separate Intel windows open each time I restart asking to run the software. Can't get rid of that. What a mess.
