I've got a strange problem: on a completely new installation Firefox does not see Java.

I just got a new SSD for my PC and instead of cloning my old drive I've decided to go with a clean install. While installing software, I ran into this unexpected problem: Firefox just does not see Java. I have the latest versions of both installed. Along with Firefox I'm running Pale Moon and there there is no problem: it sees Java as it should. But Firefox somehow does not.

Anyone has any idea how could that be?

No, that does not help. That thread is about the case where the Java plugin is installed in Firefox, but somehow doesn't work as intended. In my case, the plugin is not installed. I mean, Java is installed on the machine, Pale Moon sees Java and reports the plugin to be installed (i.e., Java does appear in about: plugins in Pale Moon), but Firefox does not see it - in about: plugins there is no trace of Java.

Hi, @Unifex:

Disclaimer: I uninstalled Java from my systems years ago because of the security vulnerabilities.

But, if I understand your problem correctly, when you look in Add-ons > Plug-Ins, you don't even see Java listed?
So, it's not a question of "Never Activate" vs. "Always Activate"?

Perhaps have a look here, to see if something might help to resolve your issue:

Hope this helps,

Indeed, it's not about activation, the plugin is not even listed. So far, there is nothing I can find on any Mozilla site that accounts for that.

I have found a comment on some other forum that apparently nowadays Firefox 64-bit just does not support Java, period. To get Java, one has to install Firefox 32-bit. Previously, when the 64-bit Nightly builds were available, Java worked. But apparently, this is the direction they are going, judging Java to be a security risk.

Personally, I've never had a security problem, so I can't say much about that. But sometimes I do have problems with important website that simply don't work without Java, in which case I have to use an alternative browser.

I will research the issue further before marking the thread solved.

Yep, indeed the 64-bit FF no longer supports Java. Remains to be seen if this is important for any websites that I use, or I will need to keep a copy of the 32-bit browser as well.
