I have Firefox set up to download files to a folder on a separate partition (E:\Downloads). When the downlaod is in zip format however it downloads to a Temp directory under User on the C: drive. Why? And how do I reset this? Zipped archives are set to open with another program (Power Desk Pro) if that is relevant.

Windows extracts the zip files as needed to its temp directory. I'm not using Windows 7 at the moment so I can't give the exact path. The only way to change that would be by some serious registry changes or possibly even Kernel modification.

I'm not sure if this will help you or not but I have FireFox set to always ask where to save my files. I download zip (or any other file type) without issue. It defaults to the last folder you downloaded to so if you used the Downloads folder last, it will point to that folder or you could navigate to a different folder.

Try this for me. Download a zip folder, and open it without extracting. Then hold shift and right-click on a file, and select "Copy as path".

Paste it into the quick reply box and see what it says.

Strollin will try that. Jonathan will try that next time I get a zip download.

Jonathan tried a download and it opens in Power Desk Pro. Shift Right Click did not give Copy as Path but included Extract as an option. It remembers that I like to extract to my E:\Downloads directory.

For info the path of the downloaded file shown in Power Desk is:

C:\Users\Bill Shinnick\App Data\Local\Temp\filename.zip\*.*
