The possibility of spying/stalking is there ...... so what do you expect?
George Orwell was a genius/visionary back in 1946. The only little mistake he made was the tv screen that is watching whether you do your morning exercises, etc. It should have been a computer screen.

Well...unless you install a webcam, the spy could only see if an exercise program was running, not that you were actually using it...unless you use XBox Kinect.

Let me add my two bits. When i studied it was impressed on me that every idiot can do measurements. The point is that the measurements have to be right, have to be representative and above all "what are you going to do with them?".
Another point is that a lot of people apparently do not care about their "privacy". They give it away freely, i.e. on Farcebook. But here again, who checks the data? It may be all lies. So what can you do with the data? Nothing, imo.The danger, however, is that conclusions may nevertheless be drawn from the data; data that may not be correct and are (still) not representative of the general population. For instance, the ones on Farcebook are not representative of the general population, far from it. The members of this forum are not representative of the general PC user.
The danger of Big Brother is not that he watches but that he gets the wrong information and starts to do something with it.

Interesting, Steve.

First I've seen of incognito version of Chrome. You think it's for real?

Your Ted link is busted.

Greg, have you had any experience with ChromePlus?

The Difference between CoolNovo ChromePlus and Google Chrome in Privacy Policy | CoolNovo ChromePlus

Product | CoolNovo ChromePlus (mentions incognito mode, bottom of page, but their wiki link is broke)

I've been using chromium for awhile. It's the base code of chrome and open source. After some messing around I found the best way for me was to clean out all my cookies using CCleaner. Then set chromium to allow local data. Go around to my favorite sites to let them store the permanent cookie. Now those sites I don't have to log in. After that I changed the setting to allow cookies for session only. Sites don't complain because chromium accepts the cookie. But it's gone when the browser closes. To minimize manual log ins, I use LastPass.

Also I use Window Washer now and then to clean out index.dat files.

I like chromium. It's lightning fast. Plus most of the snap shots are very stable. You can get more privacy using about:flags to disable some of the auditing going on.

The nice thing is I only need to run 4 extensions to do everything I need.
I still run Firefox and Opera on occasion but chromium is my default browser.

Google Chrome is Crap. It cannot hold a candle to Firefox. Chrome Plus (and a few other Chrome based browsers as well as the original Chrome itself) does not suffer from the limitations and Googlised extras the Google Chrome has. I have tried them all and found Chrome Plus to be the best.

The thing is, Firefox has staying power no matter if they may lose some money. It's their own fault for relying on google so much but they did it because Google is Top Dog.

If Mozilla can renew the contract they should.. if Google isn't letting them (I am uncertain as to if this is the case or not) as to try to make Google Chrome look better then it's sad but they just have to keep broving they have a better product - Firefox will not lose google ranking or be downgraded by Google as long as the hits are there so in that respect they still win over Google chrome.

What we need to a more level playing field in search engines. Google should be dragged into court for the monopoly it is like Microsoft was and a new better search engine share some of the spoils of war.

I have noticed when searching on Google you do not get the most up to date websites for your hits, many times you get content that is several years old and this is the stuff in the top ranking. I would rather have the latest info at my fingertips first then the older info. This is a flaw in the search engines ranking abilities IMO - I know that it reflects (they say) the most hit on sites or (more likely) the sites that are using Google's web site promotion services but this is not fair IMO.

Gimme a new search engine that really brings you the most relevant data thats the most current and I will use and promote it instead.

I should add, if you experiment with the snap shots it's a good idea to use the win32 zip file instead of installer. Also make a back up of your Chromium settings folder and the folder with the chrome.exe. Especially if you go up a whole version number, it squawks if you try to back off to an older version by just copying back the exe folder. I have Chromium settings and exe backup folders for versions 16 17 and 18 just so I don't get stuck. It's only a few hundred MB to back them up.

Usually the browser itself acts ok but an extension might act flaky. Although I have had it happen that as soon as I type in the address bar it crashed!! But 2 folder copies and I'm right back to the previous version I was using.

Mozilla, Google Seal New Firefox Search Deal

Mozilla and Google today said that they had struck a new search deal that will provide "significant revenue" to the maker of Firefox.

"We're pleased to announce that we have negotiated a significant and mutually beneficial revenue agreement with Google," Mozilla said today in a statement . "This new agreement extends our long-term search relationship with Google for at least three additional years."
