I personally love Internet Explore 8. Firefox has simply got worse with each new release.

I am the most productive with Internet Explorer 8 with the IEPro Addon.

As for what UAC does I have read so many different opinions on what it does or does not do that I concluded that what I know, it takes up some portion of my HDD space is all it does or ever will do.

Opinions? I can assure you what I am saying in not an opinion. If you want more information on the security implemented in Windows Vista and improved on Windows 7, all you need is to pick up Windows Internals, 5th Edition.

So far IE 8 has turned out to be the best version of IE and much better then previous releases. I'm not surprized to hear from someone else finding out that FF has degraded a bit from now seeing too many addons becoming available as well as a list of flaws lately.

If the first program is already running with administrative power. It is already elevated and can do anything it wants that includes installing a second program. UAC cannot defend against that, nothing can. It does exactly what it is suppose to do and what it was designed to do. There is no mystery or magic to it.

well you just proved my point, UAC can't defend against that nothing can. If nothing can protect from one program installing another by stealth even if it has admin power then there is no point in it in the first place. I would think UAC would or should question the second install with the pop message like it does asking me if I want to let program X have net access. Either way we lost the topic here and even my main point that we should protect those whom can't protect themselves either by their choice or not.

I'd like to re-iterate that FireFox is not as "bad" a threat as these statistics make out - basically people don't seem to be recognising in their posts the difference between a vulnerability and an exploit.

A vulnerability means possible issue. An exploit is an attack. More exploits are targeted at I.E. still than FF as FF has much lower market share.

Additionally FF users often (typically?) install anti-scripting and other security measures so the market share that is vulnerable to exploits is lower than it's full slice of the pie.

When looking for a secondary browser to IE I found Opera was more favorable and now read this one on that seeing the lowest percentage of problems!

They didn't test Chrome (Which I'm on right now)......... I use Chrome as a primary browser but I would definitely prefer Opera as a secondary browser. IE is TERRIBLE! The only reason I haven't (If you can, which M$ has made impossible) uninstalled it is because some "Old School" sites don't support anything but IE!

Start->Control Panel->Programs and Features->Turn Windows Features On or Off->Uncheck Internet Explorer 8->Apply->Restart when it asks you too

This eliminates IE 8 from the system

I wouldn't be making comparisons with an unfinished browser to begin with! The aricle there is making comarisons on widely used browsers not one still on the drawing board until finished up. When looked over here Chrome simply looked too much like half a browser still in beta or maybe now having reached an RC stage.

As in MSN Explorer? or the MSN webpage

Very few websites need IE anymore but they are still some out there. Best way to handle that problem is to use Firefox and download IEtab. It allows you to run tabs in IE mode (the same as opening IE and going to the site)

IEtab may be available for other browsers but I am not sure...

The core DLLs and librarys that other applications use, like Trident which is the HTML Rendering engine is left intact when you uninstall IE. Only the shell and UI for IE is removed leaving the depended on stuff alone.

If you don't want to use IE at all simply unpin the icon off of the taskbar. Later if you find you need it or want to drop another browser you can simply go into the Start menu and repin it again.

Meh. I'm not too worried, even if this is true. As long as Mozilla keeps up with patching the holes, I'll stick with them. I'm too reliant on extensions to switch now.

Agree with you there .. have you noticed they are getting sneakier and sneakier .. putting in multiple instances of the checkbox for instance?

One of the reasons FF never went onto the retail 7 here is the fact that I saw an improved browser with Opera 10 as the IE alternate there. It's much easier to work with as well as far less annoyances like that.

Unlike IE you can now actually hide the button for the side bookmarks menu leaving far more room for viewing web pages as well. So far with comparisons between all three of the most preferred I can see why Opera ends up with the lowest percentage of bugs there. The 10 and 10 Unite versions make excellent choices for those not fond of IE and now find FF too buggy!
