Firefox Health Report Gives Your Browser a Check-Up

Internet users will soon be able to play doctor to their computer browser, with Mozilla's integration of Firefox Health Report (FHR).

According to Mitchell Baker, chair of the Mozilla Foundation, the new feature will help users understand why their software runs differently than someone else's, or how to make something run more efficiently.

"Firefox Health Report will allow each one of us to understand our own experiences," Baker wrote in a Friday blog post. "It will also allow Mozilla to understand these experiences in the aggregate for our users."

looks like i will be going back to IE or Opera soon... firefox is starting to become full of stuff users dont want. instead of working on getting firefox to run fast and smooth...

I'm lost. I don't remember seeing users of Firefox asking for such a service. To me it is just another way of gathering information the have no right or need to have.

Reminds me of the FF Collusion add on that gives you a graphical view of who is tracking your Internet browsing. Except that it does not track Google. At the time when number of add on available for Firefox that block browser activity tracking, it really makes no sense to have Collusion developed by Firefox.

Google signing a three years deals with Firefox that results $1 billion income for FF during next three years certainly has nothing to do with that. But not everyone believes so:

Nice to know information. But, why worry----just don't use it.
Same with Google. Go to the FF toolbar and remove Google as a search option.
Problem solved just like the "registry cleaner" in CCleaner. I can run it , see what's
there, but I don't have to delete anything in the registry.
Of course, most people know that millions of FF users will run the FHR.

I just stick with Chrome. I haven't used Firefox in a while because of all the stuff on it that tends to make my computer run slower.

Well, Firefox arguably has became a bloated browser that relies on Google for a number of services. If Firefox cannot connect to some of the Google provided services, then the browser freezes and may crash at times.

Just type this in to the address bar in Firefox:

about:config

It'll give you the FF configuration; set the filter to "google" and see the number of results close 20. Set the filter to "chrome" and result is around 40 matches.

Pretty nice Google; why would you bother with scripts for tracking the browser activities when you can use the browsers, such as Chrome and Firefox to do the same?

BAH. It's not like we need to use it. It's some kind of "debugging tool" for commoners that could be use in helpful ways if a problem arise in the browser.

For myself, I don't care. If I have a problem, I always google it myself before putting hope in an "automated tool".

Anyway, I'll stick with Firefox because it always seemed the best for me. It has all the feature I need that the other browsers doesn't. I may look like a fanboy, but this is an honest opinion and what other people think.

Not to mention implementing stupid stuff, like:

• Removing the protocol info from the Address bar.
• Removing the disable "Tabs on top" option from the context menu.

You have to hack the config file to get those back.

When are they going to fix the "Bookmark Manager" and "Session Manager"?

In my experience, Firefox operating problems seem to be confined to the Windows versions.
Firefox never misbehaves when I'm running it in Ubuntu 10.04.

Anyway, I'll stick with Firefox because it always seemed the best for me. It has all the feature I need that the other browsers doesn't.

Agreed.
At least you can still customise Firefox (unlike other browsers).

Internet browsing is awful without NoScript.

It must depend on what you have installed in FF or Windows.

I don't use Gmail or other Google programs.

I've got ~30 config entries containing "Google".
About 50% of those are related to NoScript.

The word "Chrome" is used to refer to FF UI settings.

Works both ways (hopefully). I'm pretty sure that whenever someone makes an extension/addon that ties up Firefox Health Report, it will be THE most downloaded extension/addon evah.
