I have the same problem.

I've confirmed shortcut to firefox and firefox.exe compatibility box, "Run as Administrator", is not checked.

Firefox is run as Windows XP SP 3 in the C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox folder.
UAC settings are set to default.

I reset Firefox which Mozilla online help says fixes most issues, and now we're working with a non-customized Firefox - good for troubleshooting.

Thanks,

Answering my own post here... can I get credit for this?

Firefox was running in compatibility mode of Windows XP SP 3 and when I took it off of that, it no longer triggered the UAC. This option was selected on both the shortcut I normally use and the program file, firefox.exe. I did not set either of these - how they got set remains a mystery.

32-bit Firefox should run as an x64-based program, when you run an x64-based O/S. It lives in the C:\Program Files (x86) folder.
