I've been an avid firefox user for quite awhile and i know my networking, but this is getting on my nerves. I've streamlined my network connection so it responds very well. I'm not exactly sure if it's windows 7 or firefox that's causing the problem, but i'm leaning towards firefox.

my machine has been tested, i've disabled ipv6, i've disabled the firewall, and i've tested and retested. Using firefox, i'll open it and go to a site. it will load with it's normal zippy nature. After a minute or so, any site i go to will stop responding and take between a minute and 10 minutes to load fully. To top it off, while this is happening, iv'e checked the network latency and it's at 0 packet loss and about 30 ping across the entire network path.

This apparently does not happen with IE at all. It does it only on this machine and network though. I use firefox and windows 7 on another PC at another location (same provider and network) and it has no issues.

Most people would jump in and say then it's the network there, but it's not. A laptop connecting to sites using ubuntu has no issues at all. it's only the windows 7 machines. Also be aware that the network at both locations uses the same hardware, right down to the router.

it's 3 windows 7 machines that this is happening on, and nothing else. Any ideas?

Is prefetch enabled by default on FF?

You might try disabling that. It tries to go and DL not only the page your on but any page linked to that page and so on just in case you want to click a link. It can overload socket connections and possibly your network.

One major thing to look at - have you tired this with a brand new profile, with no extensions installed?

Code:
Firefox. exe -Profilemanager
will get to to load Firefox with the PM started so you can make multiple profiles.

In fact, I use multiple profiles (I have a plain with no extensions, a test for testing extensions, my daily use profile, and a profile for the Namoroka browsers - and I have unchecked "don't ask at startup so that when Fx tries to load from, say a third party software and link, it still asks me which profile I want to use....)
