Firefox updated today.

Actually, I was bothered by the loss of "separator" on the Customize dialog. After placing the buttons I wanted onto that toolbar area, I was unable to separate them as I had in the past.

Turns out the Classic Theme Restorer add-on returns the "separator" item capability to Customize. So by installing this add-on I was now able to separate the newly added buttons as I wanted.

But to be honest, I didn't like the way things looked with the add-on enabled. I actually prefer the rounded tabs to the square tabs. And I didn't like the new orange Firefox button placed at the upper-left corner of the window, since I already have the Menu bar enabled (because I'm old fashioned and am comfortable with a Menu bar for those functional groups). I'd already Customized the [Google] search data entry area to be on that top Menu bar line, to the right of the Menu bar item. So that top line does double-duty. The absence of the title bar looks odd, but I'm already used to it.

So I "disabled" the just installed Classic Theme Restorer. Imagine my surprise to discover that the "separators" I'd added to the button bar were miraculously retained... even though the add-on that allowed me to put them there was no longer active! I'm not complaining. I think Firefox v29 still supports "separator", but they unwittingly lost it from the new Customize dialog. I'll bet they bring it back to Customize once they realize it's unintentionally gone.

Yes, the add-on bar is gone without Classic Theme Restorer enabled, and that means NoSquint is gone (at least for now). But I'll bet NoSquint comes out with an update that moves it to Customize and thus makes it a new button, same as AdBlock Plus is on the button bar now whereas it previously was on the add-on bar.

Also, I (like others) was uncomfortable with the placement of the address area and the BACK/FORWARD buttons immediately to its left, rather than at the extreme left of that line where it had always been. And the fact that the BACK/FORWARD buttons don't seem to be separable from the URL address area, well that is certainly an irritation. But I was able to simply Customize things so that the BACK/FORWARD and URL address area is now all the way at the left of that line (so that BACK/FORWARD are at the extreme left where they always were), with my customized buttons now to the right of the address area rather than to the left where they'd been in the past. I'm already used to that new arrangement.

If you go into the options for Classic Theme Restorer you can change things to your liking. Like move/remove the orange button, or change the classic square tabs to the new rounded one, all while still having the Add-on enabled. It's not an "all or nothing" thing.

No Squint is in the Firefox context (right-click) menu. It may come in handy for you in the meantime.

You can also use this lightweight extension: The Addon Bar (restored) 2.6

It will put the bar back along with No Squint.

AHA! I should have realized there was optional configuration for the add-on itself.

I've now deleted the orange button, and also changed the tabs to the new rounded one. I also replaced the large wide zoom control with the two smaller individual zoom-in/out buttons.

Furthermore, I was now able to set the add-on bar active, and from there drag the NoSquint button off of the add-on bar and into the Customize group. And from there I could drag it from the Customize group up to the navigation button bar (same as where AdBlock is now located). And then I was able to un-view the add-on bar (freeing up that space at the bottom of the screen, since I have no other add-ons that appear there), leaving NoSquint up on the navigation bar.

Now looks like this, with the Classic Theme Restorer add-on active:

I have noticed one problem so far, which is that AdBlock Plus doesn't block the background/side ads from CNN.COM when Firefox is first launched (CNN.COM is my home page).

But if I to to some other URL, and then come back to CNN.COM, well now the ads are properly blocked as they should be. Minor annoyance.

Your awesome for reading this.
Since I use the old-fashioned Menu Bar at the top, my only wish is that I could have colored/higher-contrast buttons in the order of Back - Forward - Stop/Reload - Home instead of having them stuck to the address bar. I used to use the Simple Green theme and I hope it gets updated.
