Hi ,several months ago I ran FF all the time as I didn't like IE. Then my computer acted as though I had a virus. Going thru everything ,I found if I only had IE ,it would run perfectly but as soon as I re-installed FF ,it totally seized up as happened 30mins ago. This is the first time I've used FF for several months yet the same thing happens,
Help please ? I've not opened FF again because I know what will happen. Cyndi .x.

This belongs in the Browsers & Mail forum, not where you posted it. (As an aside, you might in the future use a descriptive thread title; "Firefox" is rather meaningless.)

I suspect (don't know, just suspect) that you have a completely fouled-up copy of Firefox. The problem may be in the program, may be in the Firefox profile. Most often, problems are found in the profile rather than in the program, but it doe happen occasionally the program is at fault.

Using the Windows Control Panel, remove Firefox; when asked if you also want to remove the profile (or whatever the removal process says,) reply in the affirmative. Next, remove any and all Fx-related folders in C:\Program Files (x86) [or wherever they are located on your computer.]

Then, go to https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/ , find the proper language version, download and install it. The usual advice is to disable your anti-virus before installing; I don't know that that is actually necessary, so I shall leave the decision up to you.

Please note that this advice is based on the assumption that you have sufficient ram to allow Fx to run properly. What that amount of ram is is an open question, as some people report on mozillaZine ( Index page ? mozillaZine Forums ) running Fx with amounts considerably lower than the recommended minimums.

1. You don't need a password to read mozillaZine. To try to recover your password, go to Moderation / Spam / Login Activation Requests , which allows guest posts. Throw yourself on the mercy of the court, and ask for assistance. Give the moderators your email address, in the form of myself@idiotic dot com, rather than idiotic.com, so that no one can access a posted link to your email. (I just tried the link; it will take you to the first of many pages, so just go to the last page to post your request.)

2. Good question about the registry, for which i have no firm answer. I only recall once having to totally remove Fx over the many years I have used it, and did not even think about the registry. I have seen a few mozillaZine threads that mention removing Fx-relatedd registry entries, but nothing in them that would conclusively prove that removing those items was required to solve problems. That written, in your case, it might be a good idea to remove any such entries, given the quite strange problem(s) you have encountered.
