Firewall: Error Code 0x800706d9

When checking on firewall status and clicking on "Use Recommended Settings" button, only this shows up:

"Windows Firewall can't change some of your settings. Error Code 0x800706d9."

Typical MS useless information as it provides NOTHING by way of information what to do to correct the situation.

Any assistance about resolving this?

Either you already have another firewall or you firewall have been blocked by a another program that either contains spyware or backdoor access.
If you don't have any other personal firewall or checked for and didn't find any viruses
Well,

When was the last time you were able to change the firewall settings?
Did you make any changes to the computer recently?
What antivirus software is installed on you computer?
Check for the service for Windows Firewall Service if it is started or not.
1. Click on Start
2. In the start Search box type Services
3. Right Click on - RUN AS ADMIN
Check if the below mentioned services has the mentioned status and start up type.

windows firewall Started Automatic\Manual.
base filtering engine Started Automatic\Manual.
windows firewall autorization driver Started Automatic\Manual.
Also check the dependency services that are required for Windows Firewall Service to run.
To check that double click on the service and click on the dependency tab.

If you can't find the services mentioned and/or can't change it..Try downloading and adding these registry entries:
MpsSvc.reg
BFE.reg
