As I found out the Windows firewall service is always running even when I do not use the WF (=is disabled).

Is this correct?

Second question:

When I go to:

Control Panel--->System and Security--->Windows Firewall

then currently the section "Home or work (private) networks" is labelled as "Not connected".
The section "Public networks" is labelled as "connected"

These states show only to which kind of network I am currently connected. They do NOT say anything if the WF is enabled or not.

Correct?

Hi:

We'll need to wait for someone more facile with WF to confirm, but I suspect that is "normal".
It's often the case for security software that "disabling" the program from the GUI still leaves active Windows Services and/or drivers.
To fully disable WF (or WD), one sometimes needs to do so from the Windows Control Panel or even deeper (services.msc).
>>I assume you are asking because you have another, 3rd-party software and/or hardware firewall?
>>Reason for asking: for most home computer users, a robust firewall (software, hardware or both) is advisable. One probably should not disable WF unless one is replacing it with another firewall.

As to the second question, it sounds as if you have WF configured to treat your home network as "Public".
That is the strongest form of protection. So, if everything is working OK configured that way, it's probably OK to leave it "as is".

Cheers,
MM
