Hi,

Is anyone else having the same experience that I am having in that I install an application which requires ports to be open as it uses the web to communicate and when I install the application I get the firewall popup and click to allow it to open ports and it also shows as a program that allows communication and yet if I do a network test to see if it can connect it fails. I also had this with the extender for the Xbox. Surely If I have allowed them through then it should work. It used to be fine with Vista.

To answer your question - No I have no such problems.
Can you tell us which Firewall you speak of?

Just a FYI -
For Windows 7 OS the Windows Firewall is recommended as being appropriate.

No firewall can protect you absolutely if you don't surf sensibly staying away from sites known to cause problems.
Try not to be tempted to randomly click on things you know nothing about.

The Windows Inbuilt Firewall is well considered & used by quite a few people here.
Used in conjunction with a Router Firewall you have a jolly good set up IMHO.

Windows Firewall

Hi, apologies the firewall is the built in of Windows. I don't require help with how to surf the web thanks because I am experienced enough to know what you are suggesting.

The issue has happened now as follows.

I connect my Xbox 360 (new generation) to the PC and windows firewall pops up to ask if I want to allow it on the home network and the public one. I click to allow it on the home network as I don't use a public network. However windows firewall block it completely. How I know this is that it will work if I switch off windows firewall then it is fine. All I want to achieve is to stream my films from my pc to the Xbox.

Surely if I have allowed it through the firewall then it should be allowed to pass through? Does this mean that I have to go through the task of opening the ports manually as seen suggested on other forums?

Thanks for your advice so far.
