Does W7 have a built in MS firewall? I can't seem to find it if there is.

I found it. However, it seems the McAfee software that came with the computer is overriding Windows firewall. Can I reverse that situation? I don' tcare for anything McAfee. I have a downloaded anti-virus(avast).

Yes it does.
Just go to the Start Orb and type in firewall and it should be in the list that comes up.

That wasn't your question.
When you install a 3rd party firewall it will turn off (disable) the Windows 7 built in firewall.
You do not want to run 2 firewalls at the same time.

Your the first member in a very long time that I have seen use McAfee.
How you got McAfee I don't know because your specs indicate you are using Avast.

You also don't want to run more than one anti virus program at the same time.

Right click on the taskbar, then click start 'Task Manager'. Click in the 'processes tab', then find McAfee and end the process. You will need to uninstall it with the Uninstall Tool.

My question was does Windows 7 have a firewall and it does. I don't have McAfee because I wanted it. It came loaded on the computer. I have avast because I've used it on two other computers with no problem. I don't like McAfee anymore than I like Norton.

I'll uninstall it.

Okay now we are on the same page.
Remove all but one anti virus program and one firewall. Use the online tools to do the removal. Then make sure you have the anti virus and firewall that you want installed and updated. If you don't want to use the Windows 7 firewall just disable it. Do not try to uninstall it.

I use the Windows 7 built in firewall along with Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes Premium.

I'm going to dump McAfee. I'd prefer to just keep the built in firewall and avast. I've used both for years on the old Vista machine with zero problems. I also have Malwarebytes(freebee so far).
