Just registered after finding it very difficult to link symbols with the WDK.

I'm hoping someone will be kind enough to help me with this problem. I was watching YouTube this evening and just after I scaled the video up to 720p I received the BSOD. I'm not sure if this is linked to the crash or not.

This Dell XPS is only 4 months old and this is the first hiccup. The only change I've made recently is install a second 1TB hard drive for my photography, images only, no video or software. I did notice over the last couple of days that the second HD was firing up regularly even though not being used.

Thank you in advance for any help and I'm sorry that my first post is asking for help. The .dmp crash report is attached as a rar file.

The operating system threw up this crash info on restart:

Thank you for taking the time to reply. Would I be better off with a paid for anti-virus? I'm not a big fan of McAfee and am only using it as it came with the system.
My fear with using a non paid anti-virus is the lower level of security over the time waiting for another possible BDOD.

Is there a good paid for anti-virus with a zero BSOD rate?

Most of us here use Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes for backup. Small footprint, efficient, effective and reliable. It is very rare to have any BSODs associated with these two programs. You should not worry about the fact that MSE is free, you paid for it when you bought Windows 7. Microsoft offers a lot of "free" programs. Most of which are generally add-on to what you have already bought. Seriously, who better than to protect your computer than the people who wrote the OS? Use them, you won't be sorry.

Thank you James. I won't argue with your advice and have installed MSE which I knew nothing about.

Regarding Malwarebytes, is it preferable to get the paid or free version?

The free my friend. And make sure not to start the trial version. You should use it as a back up for MSE. Basically, the first load, go ahead and run a full scan on all user accounts and then do scans before your scheduled backups run.

Thank you very much for taking your time with me James. I'm pleased to have made my way hear and receive the kind and direct help you (and both zigzag) have given.

I have installed the free version of Malwarebytes along with MSE and both have scanned. I feel a lot better than I have the last four months with the packaged McAfee so the BSOD might even have been a blessing in getting me here.

I've bookmarked this thread for future reference although in the kindest sense I hope never the need to resurrect it.

A bucket of good Karma your way James. Have a good week bud and thank you.

Gavin.
