first bsod

Happened just right now, where to start, please first bear with me my English is not good. So my pc ( details on my profile) has been working fine for months, today i opened foobar + adobe bridge cs5 and BAM bsod. System reseated so no time to check ( fixed that) Now, tried to reboot and my 4770 gave me a black screen on boot problem, cdent even enter bios ( did it a few times in the past randomly, ex updating the display driver ext) changed the videocard, reseated bios values and finally managed to boot. now i have lots of services disabled, ( my pc is offline) and im using an older bios ( tried all) -because the mother as a warm boot / cold boot problem , with the newer bios if you overclock basically it turns on and of at start trashing my hdd, with the old bios im using it boots just fine ( as long as the power cord is pluged) and the if i want to reset -then- it displays the warm boot problem. (dont reset much so dont care) "Some processor performance power management features have been disabled due to a known firmware problem" makes reference to this issue ( newer bios have the updated microcode)

tested my ram, no problems. temporally reverted my mild 3.0ghz oc to stock frequencies (2.4) and upped the vcore a bit (i was undervolting @overclocking my 6600 @ 3.0ghz @ 1.225v -orthos ok- stock is 1.325 @2.4ghz but now im using 8gb instead of 4) no bsod yet, temps are below zero, ( great cooling) any ideas what went wrong?

Could have been overclocking, wrong timings for ram, a hard disk defect, even bad bios sometimes - you know your hardware much better. Set all the clocks standard for a good while to test your rig for stability. If you get new crashes, attach the .dmp files that you can find in C:\Windows\Minidump. Your attached rar doesn't contain any .dmp extensions.

* Briefly describe the problem history and circumstances in the same post. Somebody will attend to your query as soon as possible.

I wonder if the problem is caused by a dead CMOS battery on your motherboard.

System boot time is shown as 1/1/2002. Probably the default for your motherboard.

Try replacing it and see what happens.

Thanks guys, lancaster i had to reset cmos values in order to boot- already fixed the old date before it was ok so i dont think thats the issue. regarding dump files no minidump, had a huge kernel one 256MB! tried to rar it but it was still huge so i deleted it... do you want me to post that?

how do i find the first dump file? im asking because i got a new BSOD but this time it was my fault so i dont care the new minidump (changed to mini so i dont have a huge kernel file) is going to reflect that. was tryng to restore my oc from the os ( setfsb, that way i could update to the latest bios, boot on default values - avoiding the coold boot @ warm boot issues . and then oc "on demand" from w7 = managed to go to 2.8ghz and then BSOD. so im stuck with the old bios. im going to go back to 3.0ghz, ( from bios) + a bit more vcore test my cpu and see what happens, if i BSOD ill post the new mini dump file.

i meant the huge kernel dump, cant find that... btw running Orthos small FFTs for 1 hr, no errors yet.

Go ahead and rar or zip that file, and upload it to Rapidshare.

Since this is the first time it has happened, I wouldn't stress about it too much.

Tell you what, let's not do anything until your next BSOD. Since the clock is fixed now, Event Viewer should be giving some more accurate results.

In the meantime you can upload the dump, but honestly I doubt it will tell much.

thanks Jonathan_Kingok, im done testing. another pass of Orthos blend for 2 hrs, e6600 @3.0ghz@ 1.2750vcore in bios + foobar2000 playing music > 45c temp and no errors. did a little work trying to recreate the issue, foobar + bridge + cs5 no "luck" everything works fine. argh kn kernel dump! now i will never know... did just 2 changes 1) upped vcore 2 notches and 2) disabled C1E in bios ( i had it enabled and used i7turbo to disable enable c1E from the os in order to lower the clocks-the power plans didnt work with speedstep > old bios- now C1E is disabled by default and if i want it just use 17turbo to enable it. would love to update my bios, but i like to boot on my first try with my oc! ( old bios im suing says audio "vista" "non vista" the newer ones are different, HD oudio etc, maybe thats part of the problem? ok until your next BSOD.
