Hi ... just booted up new PC for first time ...
OS installed on SDD ..(W7 Ultimate 64bit)
I have a seperate 1TB HDD installed - partioned into 2 volumes. (D & E)

First
I would like that the OS puts all programs by default onto D:\
I know some programs give you option to select location but not all ... can I setup that 'progam' folder is on D:\

Secondly
I would also like to move User folders to E:\ ...
I have seem articles such as:
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/18629-user-folders-change-default-location.html
This seems to involve creating duplicates ... is there an easier way to make W7 point to a different location (E:\)

There's core parts of the os that reside in program files.
That's why duplicates have to be made to make it work.
I have not encountered a program in many years that does not give the option to install to the location of your choice.
You want your graphics driver and control panel, and tool tray items on the ssd anyhow.
Or you boot speed will suffer greatly.

The 2nd program I went to install "Radio Downloader" does not give that option ...

On the first point then .. is the sequence I give link for the best approach ?

How big is your SSD?
Most people install programs on the SSD for the fast load performance benefit.
If you have enough space on the SSD, why not install programs there?

2 multi-boot PC's
Mainly HTPC/Office/Gen purpose (no gaming).
Trendnet USB KVM.
LG DVD burner/Blue Ray Player.
Tray system for removable SATA backup drives.

Not currently OCd, under-volted.
I use Hybrid sleep, rarely re-boot or shutdown.

Hauppauge HD-PVR, Avermedia PCIe TV Tuner, Hauppauge PCI TV Tuner.
I fo0llowed advice on many forums and put OS only on the SSD .. so it should never become out of size ...
The HDD has 2 partitions and will keep all programs & my own data on there.

Doesn't sound like good advice to me.

Unless your SSD is 30 GB or less.

Games can be quite large and can go on some other drive.

I have over 50 applications and Windows 7 on an SSD. Total occupied space is under 30 GB.

^This, I don't know why people are so fearful of actually using their ssd's.
I've seen people spend days moving and setting up stuff so the ssd doesn't actually have to do anything to baby it.
Generally by the time they are done I don't understand why they got the ssd in the first place.

Install your programs to the SSD for the reasons mentioned and others. If you run out of space uninstall and move lesser-used programs to the data HD.

Copy (don't Move) your User folders to the data drive, then rightclick each to add to the related Library - Include a Folder - Windows 7 Forums. Then delete any User folder content on the SSD. This prevents several problems.
