Fix Broken Netbook/Laptop.

How can I fix broken keyboard? - sorry I forgot to add keyboard to the title so it may not be specific enough.

So one of my friends gave me a laptop but the keyboard keys are broken and virtually unusable without an external keyboard. I have a Windows 7 Disk and an SSD and the laptop has a Serial Sticker on so will use that, and might bump the RAM up as it is extremely easy to open.

However how will I be able to install a replacement keyboard and where can I get one from?

Some keys also don't actually type a letter.

If you dare you can open the back and top panels if the notebook and the keyboard is connected to the mobo via a ribbon cable. Check this cable and if needed a new replacement keyboard can be ordered through HP but the cost of this exercise may well be prohibitive. I would hope that possibly the ribbon cable just needs to be reconnected that somehow it slipped away from it connections!
Something like this.......by the way I did this very thing to get to the cmos battery on my Gateway laptop. Several places where you pry the plastic back gets nerve racking but if you are determined and careful it all comes apart and snaps back together again....good luck !

He forgets the retention clip, white plastic but it's all good if it slides back in and stays.

Jez, is your friend a monkey? How do you destroy a keyboard like that, oh well you will have to replace this like the video ordering an exact model replacement via? and then pry up the plastic cover and then slip out old and install new. While you are at it I would replace cmos battery and blow out the mobo and fan with compressed air. Clean the whole unit and enjoy. I hope the cost of the keyboard is affordable !

He has a 3 year old brother who may have gotten hold of it.

I hope the cost of the keyboard is affordable !

OK Thank you. In total, the SSD, RAM and Keyboard should cost up to £140 unless I can find a keyboard cheaper than £50 from the link Ivan the SoSo posted.

Jewelers Phillips screwdriver and reading glasses possibly !
Oh and tweezers if the screws fall into somewhere.
