FLAC Metadata?

Can FLAC hold metadata? As in Album Art, Artist, Album, Compositor etc. ? I just ripped all my Linkin Park CD-s and they sound beautiful in FLAC, much better than MP3, but I can't seem to add any metadata to my files... Is there any plugin/add-on for Media Player to be able to read/write the metadata to flac-s? Please help, I'm really annoyed... I'm open to any solution...

Yes.
It's in the OGG tagging format.

You can use tagging software such as Media Tagger, The Godfather, etc to tag them. You can also use Foobar2000's included tagging system (but won't allow album art).

As for playback, Winamp, Foobar2000, etc can play them as long as it isn't WMP and iTunes...

What? You can't play FLAC in iTunes??? Wow! Another reason why iTunes sucks. And anyway WMP can play FLAC just fine. You need the xiph plugin:

Absolutely - you can tag flac files.

I agree about FLAC sound quality.

On decent equipment a LOSSLESS codec will always sound better than a lossy compressed one - especially MP3 at low bit rates -- full of nasty artifacts etc -- probably OK for users on a noisy train etc with those tiny white bud earphones but using a decent set of cans like BOSE noise cancelling phones or playing into high quality audio the difference will be immediate.


Try Ripping a standard Audio CD with WINAMP into FLAC to see how it's done - you'll even get a playlist.

Then you should be able to see how to add the tags to your own tracks.

Set up Winamp CD ripping as I've shown in the attached screenshot.
Also set the encoder to FLAC.

(Winamp uses Gracenote DB for standard CD's so you get all your tracks labelled automatically).

I use my own folders and libraries so I don't add anything to Winamp's media library. Keeps it simpler also if you want to use other media players.

FLAC is the way

FLAC definitley has metadata. Try Mp3tag - the universal Tag Editor (ID3v2, MP4, OGG, FLAC, ...) and download MP3Tagger, its free and it updates/creates tags for flac,ogg,vorbis,mp3,m4a, and many others. You can add several pics and the rest. Try VLC to play them. VLC plays everything and it is also FREE!!

Why using FLAC on Windows? Is there any reason for it? All lossless formats are exactly the same in quality, but native WMA Lossless has advantages when used on Windows:
WMA features full support for tagging (by WMP and many other programs like Tag&Rename, for example), native metadata indexing by Windows Search and sorting in Windows Explorer.
So, why using FLAC? Because it is the most popular format among pirated releases on trackers? I don't see any advantages in using FLAC (or any other lossless format) on Windows.
For me, each platform has its own native lossless format which is supported to the fullest: WMA Lossless on Windows and ALAC on MacOS. With them you will get the most of the metadata functionality on respective platforms, but not with FLAC.
