This has been going on for some time, at a tolerable rate, but recently the frequency of these "black flashes" has increased to the point of being very annoying. No harm done, however. Virus? Malwarebytes doesn't think so.

Do you get any popup messages in your system tray after this happens? I've seen this a few times where I work and it can point to issues with your video card or other hardware... particularly if you get systray notifications saying your display driver has "stopped responding and has recovered," or similar. These incidents should also be reported in the event log, so you can look there to confirm.

First step if this is the case, would be to update your video card driver if you haven't already.

Haven't noticed any. Will look into the video card stuff.
