Solved Flashing cursor, boot problem

Hi everyone

I really need help my computer is unusable right now...

I decided to delete my xp partition which was in dualboot with 7, and since then my comp won't boot anymore there's just a cursor flashing continuously on the top left of the screen...

I tried a lot of things in the cmd of the repair mode of 7 usb disc like fixmbr, fixboot, rebuildbcd etc, countless startup repair but nothing works

The 7 partition is there but it wont boot

Tried a reinstall on a new partition but it eventually fails cuz the installation has to restart and it goes back to the cursor....

hi Seerr and welcome to Seven Forums.

Try booting and pressing F8 to see if you can get a OS choice screen. It sounds like maybe XP was set as the default and it still "thinks" it's there.

The boot files for the Dual Boot were on the XP partition so were deleted with it.

To write the boot files to the Win7 partition or it's 100mb SYstem Reserved boot partition (if it was originally the boot partition) then first mark it Active from the Command Line of the Win7 DVD or System Repair Disk : Partition - Mark as Active (Method Two).

Once the intended boot partition is marked Active then run Startup Repair - Run up to 3 Separate Times.

If you need the Win7 installer for these repairs it is in Step 1 of Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 which will also show you how to get a perfect install.

I've already done all that, startup repair finds no problem and says that the OS booted succesfully...
I did a scanos and it finds 0 windows installation, but the partition is there, its even listed Ok the list before I go to the system recovery options... w7 is there, it just wont boot no matter what I do

Also, i forgot to mention that beside my w7 partition, theres another one called "Boot (X: )", 30mb, which is also the one that shows up at the command prompt as X:\Sources>

X:\ is the boot media you're using.

Confirm that WIn7 partition is marked Active first from Command Line as it will not repair no matter how many times you run Startup Repair otherwise.

However if you have Win7 on a Logical partition it must be converted to Primary before it will mark Active to accept the System boot files written by Startup Repairs x3. Use Partition Wizard bootable CD to set partition as Primary or Logical. It can also Set Active partition and Partition Wizard Rebuild MBR which may preclude the need to run Repairs.

Everything possible that can be done to start Win7 is in these steps for Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start.

Sometimes when C is Primary and still will not accept the System boot files, you can construct a 200mb Primary partition, mark it Active and run 3 Startup Repairs to write the boot files there. PW CD will make this easy to do.

u da best greg! I made a separate primary active partition ( E: ), ran the startup repair 2-3 times and now everything works! I have 2 partitions now, ( C: ) where Windows is, and ( D: ) which is empty. I've been stuck since yesterday and I did a lot of repairs, commands, fixes, bootrec, bootsect, fixmbr, fixboot, chkdsk, scans... I guess it just didn't want it. Thank you very much! Problem solved.

But to be sure of the config let's see a screenshot of Disk Management - Post a Screen Capture Image - Windows 7 Help Forums to make sure it's got no potential probs.

For one thing the boot partition you created needs to have its drive letter removed so nothing else can write to it and clog it: Drive Letter - Add, Change, or Remove in Windows 7 - Windows 7 Forums
