Flashing screen at startup

My name is Pat, thanks for having me.

I have a problem when I start up my Windows 7 laptop. It shows the startup screen where you select your user, except that the different user buttons are not there. The screen flashes between black and the intro screen repeatedly with no end. The system starts up fine in safe mode. Can anyone tell me what is going on?

Update your graphic drivers in safe mode with networking

Hello,

I am using Everest diagnostic software, and I am not seeing any GPU on my computer. I am positive it has one. Could it have burned out?

Update-

I have an Intel GM45 graphics chip, which I believe is integrated with the processor. This could perhaps be why I am not seeing it listed in Device Manager as a graphics component. The screen flashing is continuing to happen, and I am still stumped.

I looked for an update for Intel GM45 online but cannot find it for Windows 7 64 bit.....

i am having the same problem.
i woke up this morning and turned my computer on. it loads normally until it gets to the screen you have during select user. there are no buttons to press and my cursor has the loading circle on it. during this the screen is flashing black and back to the blue background. it is flashing like twice per second and wont let me do anything but restart and use safe mode. it says that this happened after a windows 7 critical update. this si the second time this happend first time i managed to get a restor to previous day, but this time my last restore is after this happened. pls e-mail [email protected] as i might not be able to find this site again.
