Basically I want a programme that can put a password on a folder or file and the ony change I want it to make to said file or folder is to prompt for a password when opening, I want it to work as normal.
Ive tried 4 or so free ones and they encrypt and ask to create a password but then changes the extension to open in the programme that created it, what good is that?, I just go in circles!
Any easy to use, straight forward progs?

A knowledgeable person can determine that something is hidden pretty quickly. A folder on a desktop only adds easier intrusion if someone already has access to the box. By hiding it you gain a few minutes. The encryption (with a GOOD pass phrase) would be your best defense.
