In all previous Windows versions I was able to identify all my program files with colorful icons by just right clicking the program - properties - customize - change icon - browse etc. This works the same way in Win7 but
the icon does not change. lI have read that programs which are listed in "libraries" cannot change their icons. So I deleted the double listing of program files in "libraries" - still no dice. What gives?

Unfortunately, it had nothing to do with my question. I want to customize my program files icons not the "library" icons. In the meantime I have learned, by accident, that the "program files" are protected, whatever that means. Why are they protected and how can you un-protect them so you can get an individual icon attached to their listing? The icon is embedded in their program folder anyway - there must be a simple way to make them visible. As I said before - it was possible in all previous Windows versions.
