Try going to mouse setting in control panel. Make sure that you did not reverse the feature of right click; making a left click necessary. When you go into mouse features, is the box checked reversing the button functions?

The issue should be caused by damaged or incorrect registry key entry. If richc46s' suggestion does not work for you, check the following registry value:

1. Click Start, type regedit in Search Bar, and then click regedit in the Programs list.
Note: If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password or click Continue.

2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Background\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\New\

3. Please check if the value for (Default) is: {D969A300-E7FF-11d0-A93B-00A0C90F2719}

If the issue persists after changing the registry key value, please continue to try the following suggestions:

1. Click Start, type regedit in Search Bar, and then click regedit in the Programs list.
Note: If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password or click Continue.

2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder

3. Right click on the Folder key on the left pane, and then select "Export" to backup this registry key.
4. Go to my Skydrive and download folderfix.zip file.
5. Save the folderfix.zip file on to your Desktop.
6. Right click and extract the folderfix.reg file.
7. Right click on the folderfix.reg file and then click Merge.
8. Click Yes to confirm the modification.

That should solve your problem.

Hope this helps.:)

Reducing the mouse speed can help.

Problem Solved

V3xar's 2nd soloution with the regedit merge worked
I've been plagued with this problem for months now, and before this the only solution was a "safe-mode" system restore. Every time I get an update from Microsoft, it changes the "Folder" registry values apparently, and makes it so that I cannot double click open any sub-folders. And sometimes it would just happen without the updates, I have the most current year and version of Norton 360 with current virus definitions...no virus detected at all. All I could do was bring up the drop down menu and manually open each folder. Now that I have this fix downloaded....if this problem ever happens again, I can re-fix it in a matter of seconds.

PS
madmansam, I don't think you read the first post fully, this problem has nothing to do with mouse speed/clicking.

Thanks

V3xar,
you had a working solutioon but the I needed to simply import your.reg file into the registry. I went to regedit, and at the top selected import file and imported your .reg file which I had placed on the desktop.

My right click works perfectly

Well done, Sir.
