folder view options constantly reset despite best efforts

W7 repeatedly resets various folders back to a default "preferred" view after so much time has passed, usually base don file type inside. The detail view options also repeatedly change back- I often switch the useless "date" tab for "date modified". I've tried registry tricks and other methods but they only seem to stick for so long before things are set back. Is there any permanent fix that will allow per-folder settings to retain indefinitely?

Windows Explorer is a nuisance, when it comes to remembering your folder settings. Explorer only seems to remember the most recently accessed folders.

To make your changes more permanent, you should edit the Folder Template instead. Folder View - Apply to Folders . Then all folders using that Template would be affected.

I've tried even this and it eventually "forgets" that too- plus I don't want a general "all folders of this type look the same" because a folder with 500+ pics in thumbnail view isn't what I want. I want specific per-folder individual settings to stick, not general view types. Even at the registry level this doesn't seem to stay.
