Fonts & graphics w/ encryption are missing in both Win 7 x64 desktops

Did clean install of Win 7 64x in HP computer and installed some fonts. After restart PP can't see the new fonts. I reinstall them and it says they are there but can't see them. I repeat this process and fonts disappear after restart. I check my 1 month old new Dell desktop with Win 7 64x and it also has problems with the fonts. I then remove encryption properties on font files and install and the fonts stay put and no more problems with both desktops.

With the clean install I spent maybe 16 hours installing Win 7 with 296 Windows updates which was ridiculous. Both computers have Win 7 64x Professional and updated Firefox. Both computers use different antivirus programs. One uses Office 2013 the other Office 2007. It is the OS that manages fonts from what I have read. With all the issues with IE and security is it possible that one of those countless 296 updates now has problems with certain encrypted files like fonts for instance? Win 7 can't seem to actually find newly installed fonts anymore? I have not yet done a backup of the encrypted code but I don't see how that will improve the problem with finding certain encrypted files. I just download a bunch of clipart and one of the encrypted files is a blank page. Even when I remove the encryption properties to the file it still is blank. The tech support folks for the site and the seller all use MACs and they have no problems with the fonts or the clipart image. Just me with Win 7 desktops. Am I going to have to migrate to Apple to avoid all the hiccups with encryption with Win 7? Or perhaps the new Firefox OS when it is available? I doubt if either will require 296 updates and 16 hours.

I also contacted MS and used their free help support and talked to some guy who either couldn't read English or is just retarded and I am not sure which one, but he has 600ish positive votes. He kept asking me basic questions on info that I had already provided. He told me to do another clean install which was his solution. Everything else works fine. The install is like two weeks old! That was a total waste of time. I also posted a bug report for what it is worth and I don't think it was worth anything since not a peep back. Is there a good place where Win 7 graphics users hang out to find some real answers to the problems I am having with graphic related files? Win 7 was fine for office stuff but I am moving towards graphics and I keep stumbling with issues with Win 7. I google and can't find answers either. I am thinking the smart graphic users use MACs and that explains the lack of info on this?

Honestly, I'm at a loss. How are you suppose to use these fonts or clipart images if they are encrypted? I been in the field for Web Design/Development for serval years, fonts and source materials were never encrypted.

As you said, removing the encryption from the fonts allows it to function, so.....your problem is what ever this encryption is....

The fonts are for digital products I make and flatten and/or secure. So are the clipart images. The problem is that MAC users/artists are automatically encrypting these files and these are the files I am buying.

These Apple folks can see these files no problem between each other. I am left out in the cold sometimes on this with Win 7 when it can't find the encrypted fonts or a png file is now just a blank page. It is also random. I get several of the same images in one folder in different colors and for some reason Win 7 doesn't like the blue with black one. I even have them unencrypt the file and email it to me and the page/png is still BLANK!

Shouldn't MS be able to read Apple encrypted files since it makes software versions for Apple? I can't change the reality that a huge segment of graphic vendors are using Apple OS. I can't just buy PC made graphics and fonts.

Is this the case where Apple and MS are using consumers in a tug a war of who has to comply to who's standards? I don't know. I just have seen in the past where turf wars have put consumers in the middle and they make us choose sides on this if we want anything to work. Can you say Netscape? That really ticked me off. I just bought an expensive Dell PC at Costco and I have up to two years to return it if it doesn't work out for me. I am at the point where maybe I need to return it and get an Apple and slowly replace my older HP to an Apple to be able to read Apple encrypted files? I have been a diehard PC person since 1996. But now I am questioning if I need to migrate to Apple for my graphics.

I just went into theMS preinstalled font files and the MS fonts are not encrypted. Is this where Apple and MS have huge differences? Is that why MS is having so many encryption issues with IE? Apple is able to lock down where as MS wants everything open and unencrypted since that is the only way it can find anything? I don't know but it does lead me to those types of questions of why I am having problems.

In the news all they talked about is how IE has encryption issues and to not use it anymore. Did they slap together some updates to patch things but it makes a mess of fonts and other graphic files? I have read that to make sure you are not hacked to stay away from flash and that manages graphics too in a way since it has to do with videos so are aspects of MS code to deal with flash etc loosey goosey to integrate it all? Does it have encryption blinders on? I even installed the MS find problems program and it couldn't find anything wrong with my newly reinstalled machine. But with 296 updates I would imagine the error rates might just increase a lot possibly. I was able to install them all and Win 7 says they installed fine.

Is Win 8 any better? I read where MS was going to offer free upgrade to Win 8 since they couldn't sell it. They were going to offer Bing desktop with it. But when I tried to upgrade it said I wasn't in a location where they were offering it. I live in Washington State the same place where MS has it's HQs. Thanks Bill et al. I am glad the outgoing CEO has enough money to buy a 2 billion dollar basketball team and still have plenty of money to live on but really must we buy a better OS so soon now? I am not convinced it would be that much of an improvement at this point. Most don't think so either. But maybe that is why they are only offering updates in smaller bites so it will take 16 hours to install 296 windows updates! They are going to make it as miserable as possible for us to hold on to Win 7? Why so many updates? Why can't they write a solid code the first time around? They have been doing this long enough haven't they? Seriously 296 updates? You would have thought they could have zipped a file or two for the updates.

I am not a super geek at all but I know a little and it is just frustrating to no end. I can't image the average person who knows nothing about computers how they must be spinning their wheels. I think they are buying Ipads for 400.00 and quietly walking away. MS is not communicating very well on many levels to consumers. I am a perfect example of this. I even downloaded the program where it is suppose to detect issues and it didn't find any. So what I have is apparently what they have envisioned.

I usually can figure out how to solve an issue eventually. But this random stuff has me wondering what they are doing in Redmond or not doing. I like the fact I can replace parts on my own. But I am willing to let go of it all to get something that is reliable with graphics. I am now wondering if one day soon all my graphics files are going to turn to blank pages when Win 7 decides it can't read any of my graphics files. Is this another way to push us to save on the clouds and pay for subscriptions? I am glad Bill is trying to eliminate malaria in other parts of the world but I feel like I am being squeezed by MS in order to help the founder reinvent his image with the public. They need to put more money back into supporting the product not buying basketball teams. No publicly held company CEO should be able to afford a 2 billion dollar basketball team!

For the record, Steve Ballmer is no longer the CEO of Microsoft, and that 2 billion is his personal finances not Microsoft's.

I have no idea where you are getting your stuff, or any of this encryption deal. But none of it really has anything to do with Apple or Microsoft it comes down to the people you are getting this stuff from. I've dealt with graphic design along with my gigs in web development, there is nothing inheritly different between Apple and Microsoft concerning this stuff, its pretty much down to third party software limitations.

I know they are looking for his replacement. I guess he must have amassed all that wealth in his spare time outside of MS? He was already that wealthy that he really didn't need to take the job years ago? He already had a couple billion laying around. They paid him too much with stock options, salary et al. No guy is worth that much and they should have funneled that money into providing better products with better support at lower cost and maybe I wouldn't have to be installed 296 updates over 16 hours!

How come the Apple users don't have problems with the encrypted fonts but my Win 7 desktops do? Why can Apple users, tech support for digital website and the designer both see the fonts after restarting their machines but whoops Win 7 loses the link to them. It still knows they are around somewhere but not sure how to connect to them. Why isn't MS including the same info from third parties that Apple is in the OS so it can see everything like Apple does? If Apple can do it then why can't MS? How can Win 7 know the fonts are there but not know how to get to them to use them? Are you saying that Win 7 doesn't know how to deal with encrypted files and why should it? Go ahead and look at your fonts and you will see that the pre-installed MS fonts are not encrypted. Windows does manage fonts and that IS a MS issue. How come Apple users can see all the files in a folder and my Win 7 can't see all of the encrypted files. I don't think you know as much as you say since you are avoiding these big obvious issues. I hadn't noticed this issue before but do now just around the same time that they announce to folks to stop using IE because of encryption issues and doing a complete clean install with all the updates. Maybe one or more of those updates are buggy. You can't just lump all MS and Apple as the same when MS is frantically making patches to poor code thus we have 296 updates!

Today I checked the forum where I sell online and two other gals are also having problems with their PCs and the fonts disappearing. So it is not just me. I am ranting because MS doesn't provide the needed support for their products but they can afford to pay guys billions. I just noticed the bug first and did a work around with removing encryption properties.I think maybe an Apple forum might be able to help me with the graphics issues. Thanks anyways.

Oh yeah all those updates to patch poor coding, are those what you mean? 16 hours to install them? How about a zipped file or two instead? I just went to the forum for teachers that I sell on and about 90% of the teachers recommend using a MAC. Even the support people on the site uses MACs.

I'm still trying to understand why would one encrypt fonts.
Why would one expect a Microsoft operating system to decrypt a Apple fonts product encryption?
Why it's Microsoft's problem why one can't use Apple goodies on a Microsoft Operating System.
If one has such a great want for Apple programs and products then I would recommending buy a Mac and bring some joy to their life.

Icons who said icons? Yeah MS and Apple should be able to talk better together. Listen I am reviewing all possibilities. One of them is the new Firefox OS that will be released soon. I am also thinking about buying an Ipad for very little and starting to learn how to use them. Firefox makes an heck of a better browser for free. If they can do that I am all ears on how they approach an OS. I am sick of the over inflated prices and the lack of security MS is slapping together for us. Now they are pushing us to subscription and cloud approach. I am not going there.
