I have..er..warez version of FM 2010, but this problem is turning out to be an asshole.

I've played this game for a long time, every single day. But then I've discovered FMRTE (FootManager Real-Time Editor) for v2010. I've changed a few characteristics on my players in Manu squad. Turns out, 2 days later, I wasn't able to run the game again... even to this day.

The error was something like this: "Invalid game XML file, token... blah blah blah..." basically the problem was in the cache files of the game. After deleting those, I get this:

To this day, I wasn't able to get the game working again. I've reinstalled it a dozen times, tried numerous versions from Razor, Reloaded, Skidrow but none of them worked. The same error was here. I've tried to run it in compatibility mode for WinsXP SP3 and the other things like Run as Admin. Still the same goddamn error.

2 days ago I've decided to format the ****ing thing (sry for language) just for FM 2010 (I was running out of ideas, yeah :) ). After format, I've installed all the drivers (latest and greatest for everything) and the game itself... not working. Same error, as mentioned above on the picture is popping up always when I want to play a game.

I've heard about compatibility mode with Steam, but I don't have Steam version of the game. Also, the latest patch for the game don't do a damn thing. Cracks, mini images, NO-CD patches, anything else doesn't help.

This problem is driving me crazy, especially if I think about my friend who's got an Asus Eee Notebook and he's able to run the game just fine, without a single problem. I was thinking that formatting should do it's job but instead I'm back at the beginning. And before you start flaming with: "BUY T3H ORIGINAL!!!111ONE" I'm not sure about spending 40€ on retail version of the game just to realize that I'm a jackass because it won't work again. But I have to say I'm pretty close to buy a Steam version of the game and try it out. If you know the solution, please tell me. By the way, all drivers are up-to-date. I just need to know what the hell is this essential data crap.

Comp Specs:
C2D [email protected]
2GB RAM
GF8600 GT 512MB (I don't think I need to upgrade anything, except maybe the RAM. Graphic card is just fine, because I'm playing... I mean I WAS playing on low graphic settings. CPU is kinda old, but as long as I can play the game, I don't give a damn)

The solution is simple. Buy a steam version of the game and don't mess around with internal files. In all reality I have no idea why it would/could continue to freak out once you'd done a complete format/reinstallation unless the cracked version that you have is corrupt and/or you installed the game wrong.

The problem with using cracked and illegal versions of games is that you don't know exactly when they'll break down. You don't know whether the next update will cause them to not work for the next few days until a new crack comes out or whether that same update will remove all of your hard earned save games.

Steam is a great place to buy games digitally. Not only does steam house many of the most popular games of the day, but it often has huge sales as well. For example, both Assassin's Creed II and Prince of Persia: FS were both on sale for over 25% last week.

Yeah, I know about these crazy sales on Steam :)

Well, looks like I'm going to buy the Steam version. But I have 2 questions before I buy it, just to give me information, nothing else :):

1. Will it be the same if I buy retail version at our local shop?
2. Do you maybe know what could cause the problem with XML tokens at the very start? I'm pretty sure FMRTE was causing the problems but I want real answer :) Deleting cache files was solution but I want a proof before I use FMRTE again.

Thanks for the answers by the way :)

the answer to your problem is simple, using a cracked version causes problems but you won't get any help on these forums no matter how many times you try to slip a question in on how to get a cracked game to work inbetween your compliments

from the Forum Rules

  1. Discussion of illegal activities such as software and music piracy and other intellectual property violations are not allowed. The discussion of methods (cracks) designed to circumvent activation and other intellectual protection technologies is also not allowed. Violation of this rule can lead to an instant BAN.

Just a word of warning with buying from Steam.

They do not support the games you buy through them! I know this because lately a friend of mine bought Need for speed: undercover. To which it was advertised on Steam it will run multiplayer besides single player. Turns out when he tried to play mutliplayer that Steam doesn't allow the EA servers through it.

So he got on to Steam (With them being the company that sold it of course) only to get them passing the buck to EA. He then contacted EA to which he was told by them it's a Steam problem. Because they sold it to him and as said, advertised it to be multiplayer ready.

So he thought "sack this! I want my money back" (Which wasn't much but it's the principle) So he does a chargeback with Paypal and instantly Steam de-activate his whole Steam account with hundreds of pounds worth of software on there that he's bought through them over the years

I have to say after this has happened to him i'm very warey about buying anything else through Steam myself. For instance if you're in the UK like myself and Steam being an American company, both countries have different laws in these matter's so our's do not apply to them and vice versa.

In my opinion, Very bad way of doing business...

It depends upon the game. The only game I have gotten through Steam is Sniper: Ghost Warrior. When trying to play multiplayer, the server browser pings and connects to SGW servers without a problem.

Well I dunno. I haven't bought anything from Steam to this day, but I'm planning to do so :) This sales are totally crazy to be honest. Steam gets the most profit from this sales I guess :D

In other words, I just bought original FM 2010, activated through Steam and there's no excuse. I has to work now :)

Okay, right now I'm pretty pissed off...

Installed the game through Steam, everything is fine, it updates but then I'm not able to run the game at all.

Basically it pops up the window "Preparing to launch FM 2010" and then it blinks for a couple of times and then... nothing.

For Christ sake, this is really driving me nuts :S I tried with integrating game cache files through properties and it says that 2 items needs to be "reaquired". Restarting Steam doesn't work, the only potential solution I haven't tried it yet is running the game in Steam compatibility mode, bu I don't know how to do this :o

Right now, the game is updating again, because I've reinstalled it. What to do next?

Personally i wouldn't think it was Steam.exe you'd need to mess with. But the FM10.exe (If that's what it's called) instead. Locate the exe for FM10 which Steam usually put's games like this in C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\common (Or something along them lines) and right click on the correct exe file and select properties. Then choose the Compatibility tab and then tick where it say's "Run this in compatibility mode for:" and choose something like WinXP SP3. Also might be an idea to tick "Disable Visual Themes" and "Disable Desktop Composition".

Hope you get it sorted finally. (Oh and i did warn about Steam and their games from third party developers) Most of them work fine but if they're not Valve games and they don't work, you're kind of screwed for any further support from Steam...

Tried everything you guys gave me but still, it doesn't work.

I will check the link to the forum you gave me. But it seems nobody else got the same problem as me. I sent mail to the support team and now I'm waiting for the reply. I hope these guys can fix it.

Anyways, thanks. If you know any other solution, bring it on :)
