I couldn't think of a title so here goes:

I have 5 computers on the network. I have 2 computers with Windows 7 and 1 Vista on Ethernet. 2 computers wireless. One of the wirelesses (Vista laptop) can get on the Internet with Ethernet and can also get on wireless on someone else’s wireless network but not my wireless network but my XP wireless laptop can get on. The router works, all the computers work, Ethernet and wireless works. What could be the problem?

What does that mean "Are the win 7 set on wpa2 for the wireless security" and where would I find that?

In your wireless adapter settings - or your can check the wireless settings in your router . See if the (wireless ) security method (wep , wpa , wpa2) for the computers are the same

The laptop connects to the network with no security and I've set the router at WPA MODE: Auto (WPA or WPA2) Cipher Type: TKIP or AES so now I have to play with the security setting or if anyone can give me any advice I would imprecate. If I aggravated anyone on this site: I'm sorry, I'm just an old man doing the best he can.

Set your router to no security ( it is not a good idea to keep it this way , forever) , set the xp wireless to no security . reboot the xp laptop . See if the xp computer can connect now . What kind of router do you have ? Model # ?

I did this and the Vista laptop can now connect (not XP because it works just fine) but I can't leave it with no security. I'm using a D-Link 655 router

Sounds like you need to reset your Network

Use your disc and reset the network and make new passcode and router name

Your configuration isn't configured correctly

I would re do all the network set a homegroup for win 7 Pc's only then just connect using password you don't have to use homegroup for xp or vista if all you want to do is use them as internet surfing devices

Homegroup your win7 pc's after re setting the router and password then connect everything else none homegroup i find this is the best way shy of using a blue tooth to see a xp or vista set in a homegroup

good luck

I'm wondering if the laptop adapter is compatible with the router. The laptop connects to the Internet if there is no security but won't if there is security. Would buying a USB network adapter might solve the problem?

That shouldn't happen. Can you find out the model of the wireless card and update it's drivers?

What setting (wireless ) setting did you have on the laptop - My old laptop could only use wep or wpa , and that was all . So no security , my router was set on wpa2 and with the limitation on the wireless nic card on the laptop = no connect - I picked up a usb wireless lan and all was good .... Have you tried to go to the wireless manufacturing web page and see if there is a firmware update ?
