Anyone having problems with downloading and installing the Nvidia GeForce 9600M GT drivers for Vista/Windows 7 32 and 64 bit try this. I am now running Windows 7 64 bit with no errors of any kind. Aero is also activated. This is not an integrated card, it is a PCI e slot on this machine. Download the two files. The listdevices file can be copied into the directory and overwrite the existing file. The path is on the second file. The second file you have to cut and past a couple of sections of the NVAM.inf file. I have used these settings for driver ver. 195.62 and 195.81 beta. Please look at the NVAM settings file and make sure you cut and paste the correct sections. These files are for the 64 bit drivers.:D

Those files should help anyone with a 9600M GT, not just xps One owners.

Those files right now are specific to the XPS one. However, I am sure by adding the correct information for the motherboard and video card ID could be used on other machines.

Does this work for Windows Vista 32 bit... I was having a lot of problems with my XPS One A2420 when I upgraded to Windows 7 and the computer just never started up right. I would leave the monitor on and that worked most of the time. So, I reverted back to the original Dell factory image of Windows Vista and it seemed to be working but then a few Windows updates later I started getting the dreaded black screen again (I would have to click on repair computer and start windows normally and eventually it re-started). I hope your solution works for me too! Do I go to command prompt to get to those configuration files?

here is what you do. Set your video to the standard VGA driver. Go to Nvidia's website and download the driver you want to install. Make sure that it is for your card. Go through the steps of installing. You will get an error message saying hardware not recognized. That's ok because now you can access the listdevice.txt page and the NVAM.inf file for that driver. At this point go ahead and modiby the two files. Save them and then run setup again. Now remember the NVAM.inf file is specific to the driver ver you are installing. I found out that you cannot use the NVAM.inf file from another driver version.

here is my contact info:REMOVED. I can talk you through the process. Anyone needing help feel free to call. The reason I am doing this is that these machines do not carry the same system board. So what I have posted previously was for my machine with the Asus system board.

I need help! I would've thrown the computer out the window if it didn't cost so much. I have been trying to resolve the video card issue for the past year and still no results. I am running Windows 7 32 bit. I have downloaded every driver on the nVidia website for the 9600M GT. If you could walk me through modifying the files after trying to install the software, it would be much appreciate it.

I will be glad to help you. Need info from you. Easiest way to do this is to do a Remote and I will be able to explain everything to you while I am doing it. Every time you try to upgrade the driver you have to modify a couple of files. On Windows messenger if you don't have an ID, set one up and add me to it. My ID is [email protected]. Send me an e-mail to let me know of a good time to do this. Also you might want to consider going to 64bit....

Ok, I will setup an msn account and add you. I'm not sure state you live in but I'm in California. I'm sure how to upgrade to 64bit. I really appreciate your help, like I said, I have been trying to fix this thing for almost a year.

No problem. I live in Florida so there is a three hour difference. I am on this thing constantly. When you go to 64 bit just let the system select the standard VGA driver and adjust your res to 1920x1200. Also don't be afraid to use the Dell drivers for the machine. Most of them have 64 bit drivers for the machine's components.
