is it be better to install Windows XP or Windows 7 ?

what will work faster ?

A basic rule of thumb for netbooks:

2GB RAM+: Windows 7 32-bit
1GB or less: Windows XP

That is what I'd go by. Yes, Windows 7 will run on 1 GB of RAM, but this is barely meeting the minimum system requirement and I just can't imagine that it would be very productive having your OS eat up almost all of your RAM.

My experience on my netbook:

Win 7 and xp roughly the same.

I prefer Win 7.

As another poster suggested: 2 GB of ram or more if possible.

A slight improvement will occur by using a 4 GB SD or usb 2.0 stick and enabling ReadyBoost.

A noticeable performance boost by also choosing Best Performance in:
WIN Pause/Break key combo | in left-hand list, click on Advanced System Settings | Advanced tab | Settings button in the Performance Section | Visual Effects tab | select Adjust for best performance

You will sacrifice some of the fancy Win 7 graphics but will get better performance.

@Karl, agree re: readyboost but its worth reminding the reader that a 4GB SD card will not give you 4GB readyboost, only the difference between the RAM memory you have fitted and 3GB (Win 7 32bit). So if you have 1GB RAM fitted you get 2GB readyboost and 2GB fitted you get 1GB readyboost. I tried this move when I got my notebook and these are the results.

On this particular system, you can forget about ReadyBoost. It's been well tested that once the system gets to 1 GB of system memory, ReadyBoost won't provide any actual boost (pun intended).

I've put Windows 7 on a few netbooks with 1GB and 2GB of ram and they ran fine, I just wouldn't put 7 on it if you have 512MB.

I ran Win7 Ultimate on my Dell Mini 9 for almost a year and then put OSX Snow Leopard on it.
