How do you guys go about cleaning yours when it gets dusty or has finger prints?

I tried to clean mine with a soft rag and Windex and it pretty much scratched it, very fine scratches where the rag went. Soft material for the window!! I tried my air in a can and it moved the dust, but not the finger prints and smudges.

What do you do?

Microfiber cloth, and a solution that consists of 50% distilled water/50% isopropyl alcohol. It's pretty much the solution that I use to clean any electronic device. Screen, keyboard, mouse, plasma screen, etc.

Hmm.

I don't have any distilled water here.

I see bottles of screen cleaning solutions in stores, I'm guessing that's pretty much what their solution is? They even provide a microfiber cloth.

EDIT: Is there anything I can do to buff the scratches out?

Story for ya.

I picked up Meguiars PlastX, it apparently removes scratches and polishes plastic, etc. I did a test spot on the window, seemed alright. I did a big spot, buffed it off. and the entire spot was HAZY, real hazy. I nearly cried!

So I got some Meguiars Mirror Glaze #10 - Clear Plastic Polish. It completely removed the haze, hid/removed some scratches, and gave it a REAL nice shine. :)

I disassembled mine and washed the (also soft) plastic window with soap and water in the kitchen sink. It produced a very clean window after using paper towels to dry it. If you can find some windsheild wipes at a gas station, they would be softer wipes.

My window has two slotted places for fans and I used a toothbrush to thoroughly clean them. (Don't tell my wife about her toothbrush.) :zip:

In auto parts stores their is a compound for taking the scratches and tarnish off of plastic head light buckets. I have never tried it on my computer but it works great on plastic head lights. Try it on a small spot and if it doesn't work on your computer you call always use it on your car. All plastics are not created equal.

I think it will do a good job, but without any power-driven buffer. Headlight are poly-carbonate and case windows usually softer acrylic.

The old standby metal polish, Brasso, will take scratches out of plastic too, with a soft cloth and elbow grease.

Brasso, which has been around sense Mosses was wearing dippers will work also. I wouldn't use a power tool of any kind on that plastic. What ever cleaner one chooses. Try the cleaner in a small spot and see how things go.
