Force 1080 on TV (Dual screen)

Is there a way i can force my 1080p capable TV to use a higher resolution than 1366x768?

It can apparently go higher than that but only if it is widescreen (1600x1200 failed)

How can i force 1920x1080? because it doesnt show up on the screen resolution page under control panel.

Yes, but my computer monitor does not

Modern Monitors and TV's report their capabilities to a PC or other device to help prevent damage to the monitor or tv that can be caused by running at improper settings. Forcing higher resolutions is not recommended.

If your TV is 1080P, then it supports 1920x1080.
On some HDTV's if you use the VGA port then it maxes out a 1366x768, so best to use an HDMI cable.
Does your laptop have an HDMI port on it?

i dont have that. all i have is a VGA, a few USB, and an eSATA

After reviewing the basic system spec's for your laptop, I see there are several models with HDMI ports, can you provide the full model number, for example, Toshiba Satellite L505D-S5992?

Of course, you could use the Docking Station.

There are USB to DVI boxes and then all you would need is a DVI to HDMI cable which you can order from monoprice.com for about $3.50 + shipping.

Well is there a way to get it through just a USB, or VGA/SVGA cable?

I had an idea that it might be the cable that cant support it. If I got an SVGA cable, would it go up to the 1080?

A quick wiki search: Computer display standard - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia shows a chart with display standards names, etc.

As you can see, VGA goes to 640x480, SVGA goes to 800x600. So, you're not going to get 1080 out of a VGA connection/cable.
What you can do is buy something similar to this: Atlona*USB*to*HDMI*Converter*::*PC*to*TV*Converters*::*Audio*Video*Converters*::*Atlona*Technologies which will add an HDMI port through a USB port. However, the res. maxes out at 1600x1200 - meaning you won't get a full HD picture out of it; I haven't seen any USB to DVI/HDMI that will give you full HD.
