Hello! New here...

Been looking everywhere on how to force Aero Glass Effect in Windows 7 while DirectX Applications are running and haven't found anything. Would anyone know how to do this?

PS
The goal I'm trying to achieve is running a video clip as my desktop which uses DirectX output, but it also cause DWM to render basic theme's during this. Any help is appreciated. Thx!

Welcome. :)

You have two options. First option is a registry "hack". As long as you know for certain that Aero runs fine on your system, then use this.

1. Open Registry Editor (RegEdit). (hold the Windows key, press R, and then type "regedit" without quotes)

2. Navigate to the following registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\DWM

3. If the DWM registry key is not found, right click on Windows and then select New -> Key to create new branch and name it as DWM.

4. In the right details pane, create a new QWORD (64-bit value) named UseMachineCheck, and set its value to 0. (To do that, right click a blank area, go to "new", rclick DWORD - 64 Bit or something like that, then name it "UseMachineCheck" without quotes, then double click it, and then type "0", without quotes. Then hit the enter key)

5. In the right details pane, create a new QWORD (32-bit) Value named Blur, and set its value to 0. (same as above)

6. In the right details pane, create a new QWORD (32-bit) Value named Animations, and set its value to 0.

7. Restart the Desktop Window Manager Session Manager in Services in Control Panel (type Services.msc in Start Search), or run the following commands in a command prompt with administrator privileges:
net stop uxsms
net start uxsms

8. Attempt to enable and apply Windows Aero in Windows 7. Restart the computer if required.

Mind you that this only works on systems that support Aero. Steps 5 and 6 are there to reduce pressure on your Graphics card in case it's not powerful enough, but by the looks of your card's specs, it is.

If this does not work, try This program. It has an option to Set your videos as your wallpaper.

Hope this helped!

Thanks for the reply, but:

I'm using VLC and putting it in DIRECTX Rendering and even with the Force Aero Hack, it still dummies down to Windows 7 Basic Theme when VLC opens the video. The desktop renders beautifully with no studdering or anything, except I can't get it to stay in Aero. Any ideas?

Interesting...I have no idea, sorry. I can't test any methods myself, as my system doesn't support Aero at the moment. :(
