Force EI 11 links to open in new tabs without having to...

I'm a dedicated Firefox user, but also like to fool around with other browsers. However, I often give up on IE(11) because I can't get it to automatically open links into new tabs. By "automatically," I mean when left clicking a link, that link should simply open into a new tab (as does FF) and not open in the tab from which the link was selected. I don't want to have to either right click and "choose open in new tab" or have to use the keyboard. For the life of me, I can't understand why IE can't be made to force a link to open in a new tab with one simple left click?

The most reliable way I've found is to use center mouse wheel click

My tab browsing setting were very slightly different than yours in that for "When a new tab is opened, open,"you had "your first hoe page" and I had "The new tab page." Nonetheless, when I changed to your choice, it didn't make any difference. New tab still opened in old tab. BTW, I am using a Logitech cordless trackman and have the center button set to "Enter," thus pressing my center button did nothing. There is no way that I will ever use IE unless links open in new tabs with a single click.

Yea the home page bit is just a irrelevant personal preference,
Center click was just a reliable work around to keep my sanity

Ie ? well it is determined in the new tabs page gathering so new tabs kind of break that so might be why it really doesn't open new tabs all the time or at all really,
New tabs page works off history,
ie as far as I know doesn't track other open tabs as a history in the original tab or really original window,
One of the good things about using other tabs but it seems to break ie's ability to open anything in a new tab via it's settings,
I don't believe that was an issue in ie8 but has been in every version after 9-10-11,

Use ie or not because of it :/

this ain't automatic as in post #1, but it's close, and works for IE and FF -

when clicking a link and also holding down

shift > link opens in new window (with focus)
shift + ctrl > link opens in new tab (with focus)
ctrl > link opens in new tab (without focus)

Thanks, but I will only use IE if a link will open in a new tab with just one click...don't want to have to use the keyboard or right clicking.

As a example of ie,
If I post a hyperlink or anyone really here ie will open that hyperlink properly in a new tab, also if the link is to another question on this forum it will also open it in a new tab...
Ie does not handle internal links of a website as a popup or directing you outside the website so it will not open in a new tab,

So use the ie Connect feedback link and leave feedback
Because there really is no setting that will open All links in a new tab

Thanks, TZ, for all your input. I guess, then, the bottom line is that I won't be using IE to any degree...if at all.
