Ok, I know that sometimes windows will ask you to force shutdown if something is still running at shutdown. The problem I have is, I'll close everything and hit shutdown. The "Force Shutdown" screen comes up, but there are no programs listed to force shutdown. It's blank. It does this at every shutdown. Any ideas??

Well I would think something is still running. May be a hidden process of some type. Which isn't a good sign. Could be some type of Virus/Spyware/Malware.

Best to start with a Malware scan then a Virus scan.

I've done a Malware scan, and it has an updated virus scan. I've looked through the process list and nothing jumps out at me. It's a brand new Dell Laptop, with a fresh image on it. Really weird.

Is the image you loaded on it for that notebook? Was it made from a clean install on that notebook?

If it was a image from some other PC, notebook or not or from a similar notebook, it could have a driver that is hung because it can't find the hardware.

I am running Win7 Ultimate and I experience the same as you. However in my case I DO have softwares running in the background: AnyDVD, O&O Defrag and Norton Internet Security.

Additionally, I think that programs and softwares, that we close are not immediately closed.

Even so, if you find the constant appearance of the Force Shutdown screen annoying or unsettling you should check it out; you might even contact Microsoft.

BTW, I use Anvir Task Manager's free edition. Here is the link for you

Yeah, it's not really THAT big of a deal, it is annoying for the user. The only reason I have a little concern is that fact that we have several of these same machines, and this is the only one doing that. I'm guessing it has to be something unique to this machine that the user did, I'm just not sure how to figure it out.

So this didn't start right after loading up that image, right?
Then you are probably correct in thinking it was the user that did something to start this.
