Formatted By Mistake

Hi,

I changed my motherboard and disconnected all of my drives apart from the one I thought was my C drive. Alas it was not and had some very important folders in it.

I started to install windows and got to the drive option and formatted it and as soon as I had I realised which drive it was. I did not go any further with the installation so nothing has written over it.

Can anyone advise what my options are if any to recover this drive?

Yes, the only way I know how is through paid software such as:
Data Recovery Software to Undelete Files; Disk recovery; Recover Deleted Files
Data Recovery Software - Hard Drive Recovery - RAID Recovery - Runtime Software

There might be some freeware, but I'm not sure of their effectiveness.

Or you could go to a place that has tools to recover data such as BB Geek Squad

Try free Paragon Rescue CD, which has the ability to recover the formatted partition, or copy the data off of it. Rescue Kit Free Edition | PARAGON Software Group - free partition software, hard disk partitioning

Well I have a friend who accidently formatted the hard drive on his mother-in-law's laptop loosing nearly 2,000 photos of her grandchildren, I introduced him to Recuver and he is still alive and kicking. I rest my case!
P.S. She never did find out about the mistake

Thanks for all your advice. I am currently running Recuva and it is just over 50% done. I will let you all know the outcome soon.

I like Recuva,, and it can work on a Formatted drive,,, but mostly works for deleted files.

If Recuva fails,, which is possible,, you can also try TestDisk which is very good at recovering data from a formatted drive. Not as user friendly, can take a day or so to fully scan the drive for data, but it does work where others fail and it is free. Has saved me on several occasions.

Hi Guys,

I managed to get my files back. I just have to go through all of my music and put it back into its folders again.

My Electrical Design project that I had worked on for a month which goes towards my qualifications was okay too. I would have been completely gutted if I could not have got that back so thanks again all.

Was Recuver successful?

I know this an OLD thread but I just wanted to say I had the exact same issue and Recuver saved my life and infact one of our servers! I am so grateful to this forum and all that have contributed to it. I found the page doing a standard google search.

Anyone with similar issues get this software!
